And with Garter's comment of having had a pet turtle when he was a kid you may even include him and Panty bonding over losing their pets. Season 1 captured the episodic cartoon format very well IMO with shit like the transformers episodes that elaborated on a main gag/premise. Though if they do continue testing that format out Ohagi of Doom is what I see as a shining example of the 5 minute format they should follow in the future.
I think season 1 was better, based purely on the end of season payoff/ the actual plot episodes at the very end. Brief getting to fuck Panty was a way better payoff than a love confession on a ferris wheel and the actual final fight was better. It's been a long while since season 1, but I don't remember it being so aggressively episodic. There was at least some plot progression even early on instead of a bunch of one offs and movie references.
