Getting Panty has always been his goal, and he got her right when you'd think he never would. That said I agree that it was far-fetched for her to say that. I agree when people say Panty and Stocking are both nicer this season than in season 1, especially to Brief, and I know the tiny nuances between Panty and Brief's interactions that imply she was warming up to him slightly weren't accidental. If it was Panty in season 1, I wouldn't be surprised, but doing that in season 2 was a little hard to buy.

Everyone else just kind of leaves him behind without anyone commenting on it even though there was a effort put into bringing everyone along. It could have been retooled in a way that I can't think of at the moment. The fast pacing did the finale a disservice overall IMO and needed more small scenes that let things settle in and showcased those subtle aspects. For example Brief told Stocking to go by herself, maybe have Stocking be smug about it when they leave him behind? Something like that, I think another anon had a point where Imaishi's story boarding style has gotten less sharp- especially here.

Ngl I was a bit disappointed by the finale, they kept talking and talking and the climax felt much weaker than the Poly bros vs episode. S2 was pretty enjoyable once you get past the boring episodes. I don’t think the humour of the series was for me but I loved the character dynamics and interactions. It’s as if it was an adaptation of a webcomic that I followed for a long time. Some episodes at the start are pretty hectic, sure, and there are stand outs like Vomiting Point that was all done by Ghibli regulars unrelated to Gainax that Osamu Kobayashi or maybe Mukuoda brought in, but so many episodes straight up look like shit. And not even just shitposts like Chuck to the Future, Nudical Run and 1 Angry Ghost for example are supposedly "serious" episodes but they're barely animated, to say nothing of the horrible Flash animation in If Angels Wore Swimsuits. If NPSG valued consistency over ruining episodes with bad animation, that was a good decision.
