Also the bad art> and 2011 saved its reputation. Untrue, people were generally happy with the way things went with the ant arc in the end. Also the arc resolved when Togashi was pretty active for his standards. Amateur hunters don't make much sense.Any primitive knowledge of nen at all should immediately put you at an extreme advantage in the Hunter Exam.And there seem to be plenty of amateur hunters that do?There's maybe enough ambiguity in the real exam that we see to dismiss this through the perception of the four protags.Perhaps most/some of the contestants in the final rounds actually did have some understanding of nen, but dont have any visible hatsus?

The only part of the palace invasion people didn't like was Ikalgo. Whenever Togashi came off hiatus and we jumped over to him crying in the underground and everyone groaned, but nobody complained about Youpi or whoever else.The idea that the anime "saved" it is a misunderstanding of how anime/manga work. No one reads manga except huge geeks, but everyone watches anime. So of course Hunter x Hunter's reputation skyrocketed after the 2011 anime, normalfags only watch anime. Normalfags also think zoomer shounen is good, do you know why? They have big budget, seasonal anime with lots of flashing lights and colors. That's it. No one who reads manga thinks My Hero Academia or Demon Slayer is special or anything. Their popularity is thanks to the anime adaptations.Also, Hunter x Hunter has never been as much of a mainstream hit as the Big 3. There's a reason it's not part of the Big 3 or it's not called the Big 4. Just like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, it's more of a cult series, it's more famous and respected by people in the industry and huge manga geeks. You see mangaka paying homage (or ripping off) Togashi all the time, or going on and on about how much they love him in interviews. But normalfags are more lukewarm to the series.Speaking of JJBA, that's another example of how normalfags only watch anime. CA is the culmination of Gon and Killua's friendship, but SC is the culmination of Kurapika's and the Troupe's storylines. Personally I love stories with a million characters all moving at once, with their own limited knowledge and objectives, and seeing how they all fall into each other like a Rube Goldberg machine, and while I don't think the arc has perfectly hit the spot for that yet, one thing I can say is there's more interesting stuff happening than there was throughout most of the Chimera Ant Arc. That arc had large stretches of nothing happening in it. It only has the reputation it does thanks to the palace invasion. This arc feels more like a meat grinder in comparison. There might not be a "palace invasion," it'll be more like edging.If I had one criticism for the arc it's that Togashi hasn't shown us a lot of cool abilities. Togashi showed us early on Crazy Slots, Deep Purple, Hide and Seek, Hakoware and Hotel Rafflesia. These are some of the most popular abilities in the entire series. The SC by comparison has like...Biohazard and...uh...Sweet Home is okay.
