Of course it's easier to forgive him, because he was stopped before anything bad happened and there was no lasting damage, unlike with all the other villains of the show. But I don't think he was "just" an antagonist, because he did cross the line into being a villain in the final battle.

Two of them were scenes, where he did some relatively minor stuff, and could have been replaced easily by another character. Third was the attack on the main characters in the final battle, and an actually dangerous situation. Two of those three times, he was working under someone's orders as a henchman of sorts. Unlike Shaddiq, he was not actively influencing the plot, and had no real overarching goals he tried fulfill. Even his final battle with Guel was more a result of the attack Shaddiq orchestrated. In terms of scale, Shaddiq takes the cake as a much more major villain and character, and he actively shapes the plot in multiple points. In terms of "action", Lauda's really only acting in a plot-affecting way in episodes 3, 7 and 21-23. Meanwhile, Shaddiq is active and making moves through episodes 8 to 20. Lauda simply just does fuck-all, and even the fact that Shaddiq is indirectly the reason for Lauda's attack should already tell you that he's a much more major villain. Moreover, Lauda might be the "final boss" but he's only the final boss for Guel. Eri is the final boss for Suletta, and arguably the true final boss of the show, as she's way more important and also a more major villain in this scene due to serving Prospera. In other words, even in the episode, where Lauda is at the height of his villainy, he's still only a relatively minor villain compared to others. I'm not arguing here that Lauda wasn't a villain or that what he did wasn't wrong. He was a villain, pure and simple. I'm just arguing that he's not as big or important of a villain as Shaddiq is, and in the scale of the show's conflicts, he ranks very low.
