>gaijin character speaks flawless japanese>japanese character responds with "IM SOREY I DEW NAWT SPEEK ENGURISHU"What causes this?
>>282613973Happens irl>Gaijin: ah, konbanwa, uhh... kore ikura desu ka?>Japanese: oh hello!>G: hello>J: hau ah yuu?>G: ah, genki desu, omae mo genki?>J: you ahh good? >G: ah hai, hai, uhm, kore ikura desu ka?>J: diss iss cheeken >G: how much?>J: you want?etc
>>282613973For me it's whenever a non-Japanese character speaks perfect Japanese but then gets caught up on an extremely easy word. I remember the Finnish girl in Senran Banka speaks near perfectly but then struggles to understand how to say tatami.
>>282614101Rare example where Japanese charisma wins out
>>282614157she couldn't pronounce tae tam eye? how embarrassing
>>282614163lmfao I want to see this
>Gaijin character's speech is entirely in katakana in manga>>282614163It's always weird when people think a genuine accent is racist.
>>282613973Like this?https://files.catbox.moe/npf8kx.webm
>American/British/Canadian/Australian/etc character speaks broken, unintelligible English>it's treated as perfect
>>282614281If you don't have the required skin color, using that accent is racist. The sooner you realize that the people who constantly decry appropriation are the biggest raging racists around, the more sense everything starts to make.
>>282614316>he doesn't bat an eye>he only continues speaking japanese, hoping her processing speed catches up
>>282614316Is this a Japanese self-deprecating joke?Or was he bad at speaking?
>>282614101its because your intonation is shit and they literally cannot understand you
>>282614701he made like 2 small mistakes, but he sounds like a native who is faking it, which is much better than her english
>>282614101KEKKKK based happens to the best of usIt does only make sense tho cuz they wanna have fun speaking in a different language too
>>282614705pitch accent*
>>282614818Pitch accent always seems like some bullshit to me. Anime characters sound completely different from real life Japanese speakers and it seems to me that the reason why is that the voice acting in anime doesn't stick as much to the pitch accent as real life speaking does. So a Japanese speaker should be able to understand a foreigner not rigidly sticking to the pitch accent system.
>>282614859Yeah I think they're either just shy or xenophobic, or maybe they just really want to practice their English.
>>282613973The need to convey information to a Japanese speaking audience. The same reason 'Allo 'Allo had everyone speak English for its English audience while using exaggerated accents to convey which language the character was using.
>>282614796This. Most of the time it's a case of>oh shit it's a foreigner, this is my chance to cut loose in the boring gay ass country>what, this asshole wants to speak the same stuffy japanese with me with the same rigid rules?>fuck that, I'm just going to pretend I didn't hear that and keep speaking englishIt's a bit different in professional settings, though. If it's a person working they usually insist on speaking English to you out of excessive politeness, even if they're shit at it.>>282614859I've seen pretty candid videos of Japs speaking about pitch accent autism in foreigners and almost all of them say not to worry about it, since they'll still understand you. You'll still sound like a foreigner, but you'll never be anything other than a foreigner to them, anyway, so stop tearing your hair out over it and just have fun. They don't expect perfection out of you with speech, even in work settings.
