The biggest problem with Edgerunners is that it was too short for the story it wanted to tell, it needed two more episodes at least, one once the gang started working together and one after the timeskip. Ideally just avoid a timeskip altogether in the sequel, though with a little girl protagonist that seems inevitable.The other issue was that while Imaishi mostly did well with material different from his usual stuff, he really struggled with all the lengthy dialogue and exposition that he notoriously hates. When one of his anime had an exposition heavy episode he made sure to bring in someone to make it more breezy and fun, but here especially after the timeskip it's just back to back scenes of people sitting down and talking and it's clear that at some point he got bored and gave up on trying to liven them up. I don't know if Ikarashi would do better with that, but even there just less exposition would be preferable.Anyway just the prospect of Ikarashi finally directing a show makes it more exciting than the original. In theory it should also be a better fit than Imaishi since gritty psychological drama is his specialty.

CYBERCUM EDGEFAPPERSI played the game and watched the anime a month ago. I actually played to 100% complete 3 times consecutively then quit. (The game and the expansion) was good. The anime is really good, it’s the first time I’ve seen a show associated with a game (since Pokémon maybe). It was a fulfilling synergy
