Do you like this series? And is there a worse ending to a otherwise good anime? I rewatched it after a long time and I think it was fun until end of season 2, the last season just makes it a convoluted 100% action mess

I have been watching it for the first time and so far, I am somewhat impressed.I don't know how much the anime differs from the manga, but the anime seems to be standard fare for the mid 2000's.The encodes that exist are complete ass. They suffer from severe color banding and artifacting. Are the official Blu-Ray's any better?

The issues arose because for some reason JC Staff changed some plot events around and added a bunch of OC Donut Steel stuff in season 2, which meant all of the character development and plot points that drove the last third of the story got rushed and became confusing. In the novels it (supposedly) makes a lot more sense, especially because you get more of Yuuji's perspective and character development over time.

Season 2 is my favorite part of the show, with all the school stuff, the big battle with Sabrac, and Yuuji becoming stronger. The official translations stopped at 2 volumes, likely because they realized it was more trouble than it was worth. Idk how LLM translation is doing right now, maybe one day it will be able to do it well.

Tachitsu teto is busy drawing a monthly isekai manga now and hasn't done any Shana art since a couple years ago. There's still ariu0 but all he wants to draw is gross stuff.

Then there is a big war, the dude is now bad-not-really-"you wouldn't get it good guys" and then it ends. I remember watching the "last" (10 minimum) episodes in bits at x4 and it was still excruciating.
I loved how closely the character development and the romance plot in this show were tied together. Shana's love for Yuuij grew in a way that preserved her strength of personality, and in the same vein, she never felt too domineering of him even at the start when he was a total pushover. A lot of series I've read or watched struggle to strike the right balance in that regard, especially if one character starts off with a stronger personality than the other.
