girl gets obsessed with the internet and then has an existential crisis when she learns she's an intangible concept given form by someone that wants to use her to rise to godhood. She denies him this by deleting herself from everyone's memories

Eventually after defeating him Lain uses her powers as a basically actual god to erase herself from everyone's memories because people clinging to the idea of a god inside the internet leads to nothing good.
