are the women sex workers or more like hooters waitresses?
>>282630705I read it as being a very thinly veiled brothel. But I don't know shit bout whores in Edo.

How do ronin even make money?
>>282635203As bodyguards and general hired muscle?
>>282635294I guess I'm wondering how the MC makes money when he doesn't even have a sword.
>>282635203>pawn his belongings>work as hired muscle>work as construction worker>work as a bodyguard>banditry>petty theft>gambling>become an apprentice in some honest trade>become a teacher>opening a sword school>dueling other samurai to get more prestige to make more people want to come to your sword school >become a monk >marry a merchant's daughter and help out in the family business >marry a peasant's daughter and help out in the farm>run away with the dowry when they find out you also married a third woman >become an actor>become a street vendor>enter the beggars guild >ask your family to send an allowance the possibilities are endless in the shogun's capital.

>>282635203Assassinations, 500 ryo each.
Not yet.
>>282635827That does not seem like a viable business model.
Missed the last two chapters, just caught up. Thanks for posting.>understood what was meant by the dojo owner paying him off>gets some action at the 'archery range'>gains the trust of kankichiOur guy might be a little weird but he's no autist. >>282635203During the Edo period merchants became increasingly rich and influential, but they were still in theory at the bottom of the social hierarchy, so could not depend on domain lords or prominent samurai families for security.
>>282635617That's unfortunately not true during the Edo period. Work as a ronin was pretty limited. Samurai status meant you could not actually do menial work like construction, whether you wanted to or not. You could also not simply enter the employ of a new clan. A lot of ronin were reduced to being bodyguards, criminals or begging via "suicide bluffs". Essentially you go to a clan's manor and request to cimmit seppuku in their yard, in the hopes of being denied, given some alms and told to fuck off.Check out the movie Harakiri for an interesting story based around that.
>>282651183>harakiriNow that's a damn good movie.
>>282651183That's brutal but also kinda hilarious.
Almost there!
>>282651183I did watch it, and in there the protagonist is seen working making umbrellas and his son in law becomes a teacher before the incident>Samurai status meant you could not actually do menial work like constructionsure but there are many asterisks attached to that, mainly the fact it it couldn't possibly be enforced on 100% of cases. many ronin could and did lie about their status in order to obtain work, marriage or adoption, although I guess they technically weren't masterless samurai anymore.
>>282629710Chapter 7: The Wind that Blows Between Life and Death

>>282654423Well that's a bit much>>282654530What an asshole I rarely get madThanks as always OP!
>>282654494I dont like his freakishly long arms
>>282654464is sou really hiding a blade here? His hand being positioned like that would suggest that, and he has shown immense sakki, but he hasn't been shown possessing a short blade before and crab man is a bit of a bushi larper whose fantasy may make him see things that aren't there
>>282654530Thanks OP My temper has been mostly stilled, but I'm still working on it
>>282655999He could probably use his bamboo sword to fake an attack as a distraction

Hey wait a minute. Is this whole chapter a metaphor for something?
