>>282646090>>2826462302016 wasn't just a 4chan thing, it was when another huge wave of people started using the internet in general. This is why Trump won, he made the best use out of the new space. A similar wave happened around 2012, which is sometimes linked to Obama's second victory. Every 2-4 years we got a year where a bunch of new tech, big entertainment, political events, other phenomenon coincided. This caused a bunch of new people to flock to the internet either through it becoming more accessible or them having a reason to be drawn in. This all ended in 2020 when lockdowns pretty much forced every single person online. Now even boomers know about inflation porn and furries. Any time a crowd widens, you are likely to notice a shift in feeling whether good or bad. This crowd has widened immensely, which is why it seems like the internet has rapidly changed especially within this decade.

when was it that the point of posting in 4chan switched from just having fun banter like old friends meeting up and sharing some laughs to baiting people into reacting to stuff just to get some some dopamine kicks from the (you)s?Back then it felt like people were more "brotherly" as fellow lonely nerds looking for people to discuss chinese cartoons with, there was an implicit camaraderie, anons always had their differences but there was this understanding that we were all the same deep downNowadays it's like everyone is hostile to each other, it's all about baiting, getting reactions and labelling people as XYZ to discredit them or assert some meaningless superiority, it's the complete opposite, like everyone sees the fellow anon as an enemy out to get them
>>282635599HuhIt has been a while since I saw Vert-ojisanAt least rumors of PT's demise were exaggerated

Luckily, there are still some sparks of light here and there.
>>282631876Trvke nvke
>>282650878I blame a lot of it on unchecked mental illness, exacerbated by lockdowns and legalization and accessibility of drugs. >>282651003>I do pine for the days of old, even if they're never coming back.I used to, but not so much anymore. /a/ was my first board, but I only come by once in a while nowadays because of the weird zoomer panic against lolicons and whatnot, and the repetitive arguing. I don't really care about "going back" to any time anymore because I found hobbies and people that I can create into the future with, and I moved to boards where I can do that. Puniru brought me back to /a/ and I've been enjoying it, but it's not my homeboard anymore.>Luckily, there are still some sparks of light here and there. That's another good thing: on the Internet and IRL you can find pockets of genuinely cool people. Picrel is a bunch of guys singing COLORS on the street at Anime Expo 2025, where I also sung Guilty Future and a cute woman called me an "oldfag". You just have to look for fun and keep an ear out.

>>282664576>Effortposting can still make a good impact.Lol no. Tried that on /tv/ a couple of years ago, didn't work. Tried that on /lit/ a couple of years ago, didn't work. The site's just too entrenched in its own stupidity now. /a/ somewhat thrives but the board is just so slow nowadays, you scarcely get any interesting threads or projects running anymore
>>282668551Everyone on /tv/ just ignores my FROM shitposting :(
>>282664576>Effortposting can still make a good impact.for every thoughtful, well reasoned post you make, I have a dozen low quality off topic shit posts
>>282668637>>282668551It's fine, I'm not saying it'll change things on a large scale. One good thread is one good thread, and any piece of OC is nice. They don't show up that often anymore but I'll take all the ones I see.
>>282668551>>282668655Well actually, I want to append a caveat saying effortposting can only work if 4chan's users have passion. It's the distinction I have for it at the present: 4chan is emotional, but no longer passionate. This dude OP posts a benign Slowpoke post and everyone immediately jumps to whining and moping how things used to be with nary an interest in picking things back up. Well there, just one of many examples. The lack of passion just subsumes itself ad nauseam to the point hardly anyone posts with care, hardly anyone browses the site. >>282668575I don't know that show, but I can tell you were cracking up the whole time you were making it lel
>>282668673I wont say nobody is passionate but less people are, yeah. That's why it's good to at least keep (You)r passion alive even if it's not going to be perfect, you can always capture some nice moments here and there. It doesn't have to be shit
>>282668673>>282668707lol, there are plenty of people with passion. I put a lot of effort into low quality shit posts, and I know I'm not the only one
>>282668637I've been on 4chan for so long and possess self-reflection so for every effortpost I make, I know there will be anons thinking about it, regardless of them reacting to it directly. So I just make them. I am here when I have time to waste anyways (home office days), might as well be the change I want to see and do my small part. Rarely about anime lately because my opinion > your opinion and people STILL don't know japanese anyways. Fucking niwakas.
>>282668673If there is one thing you can't fake, it's passion. Sadly I am also a passionless husk, even if once in a blue moon I'll do a shitty MS Paint edit of something. Either way, I do not know if anything can be done to salvage things on that front.
Storytimes have the best OC
>>282668575kek I love that show
/mlp/ is the only board where there's still a good amount of passion that turns into actual OC.
>>282650878You typically have to go to smaller sites to get the brotherly feel. The only two I really know are heyuri and mootxi.co
>>282631220>and people hating on absolutely everythingIt was like that back then too anon.
>>282631220>people hating on absolutely everythingThat was still the same, but like then and now plenty of people still love things.
>>282662525This was him?
>>282660150I think it was more than 4chan wasn't as well known outside of hardcore forum users. MSN Messanger was still a big thing among most normalfags at the time and was easy to access prior to facebook becoming big so most flocked there and never considered forums outside of major hobby sites like Gamefaqs and Gaia. So the people who ended up here either got filtered out by how different the discussions were compared to every other forum site, or just lurked for a few years before gaining the courage to make a reply or post.
>>282630935Another year.And you're still here.

Toasting in an ebin bread
>>282670717That was a good time with a surprising amount of new oc
>>282668916I collect all I can and hang them on the fridge of my heart
>>282631220It was a different kind of mental illness because most "18+" posters were underage. I know this because of the post-hack sticky back in April.
>>282670717That's because Hinamatsuri is hilarious and has tons of room for jokes
>>282666602He loved Iori so I poured one out for him even though I didn't care about his posts.

My first memories of /a/ were from when we would come over from /v/ once a week or so for richter bromont storytimesOn a related note, I kind of miss that innocent time when everyone here was obsessed with the idea of being "bros" and things that made you say "fuck yeah"

>>282668881I save my effortposts for my favorite altchans, where they stay longer.Only my lowest quality posts end up here.
>>282677270if it's good enough other people will save and repost it, that's what posterity means
>>282630935What?
>>282666378It's right at the peak of the ironic era where people were already souring with the loss of gatekeeping only to be met with a deluge of Reddit/Tumblr epic maymays that just imploded everything. Which is what made the following GG/Trump stuff all that more bizarre, somehow shaking off the irony to channel a bit of that old retarded energy
>>282659970>missed out on Star Driver threadsfug
>>282635599>>282662525He was retarded and I didn't like him, but it feels weird to know he's gone now
>>282676353there was this russian guy at my college who learned all his english through memes and he was insistent to make sure he emphasized the bros aspect as much as possible. I mean could be a russian thing too, but when he would try to troll face irl like picrel, I suspect it was the former
>>282660150>normiesIt is because people like you aren't banned on sight.

I'm sorry, my name is Brandon Summers.
I whish something new as big as the internet would come up so we could burn the one we have now. Current year internet content is the stuff of nightmares, 0 creativity whatsoever ad ridden hellscape designed to drain your attention and ragebait you into a perpetual state of anxiety. And still somehow can't put it down since it's been intertwined in every aspect of real life, how the fuck can I escape?
>>282681255The internet was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, be glad we were here to experience it when it was new and exciting.Though maybe when actual virtual reality becomes a thing, we might still be alive to enjoy its wild-west era before the general population/ world governments/ corporations catch up and make it boring
>>282650878Already by 2007 with the Lucky Star moefags VS Gurren Lagann manime faggots, the kind of dynamic you speak of was a common occurrence. It's gotten more all-encompassing over time though, I'll give you that. And the sheer amount of third-worlders on the English internet these days completely changes everything about how users interact.
>>282681448well I guess is better than the moon landing, still that it'll be the invention that'll define our time period it's depressing as fuck.
>>282681448I don't think the tech is going to advance much from now. The shit I did on my computer a decade ago really isn't much different. Hardware has gotten better, but that basically amounts to being able to offset lack of software optimization a bit. Stuff like graphical fidelity in games and video has essentially stopped getting better.
>>282681677It's not the tech that can't advance much further, it's the software that's hit a brick wall. Game development, as an example, is slower than ever because of the sheer amount of time it takes to achieve 'industry standard' graphical fidelity. And most of a studio has to be committed to it just to ship a video game on time. Problem is, you can't just scale up dev studios and get a linear return on quality and speed of development because the bigger the team, the more that it starts to slow down development due to communication and management issues exacerbating exponentially.
>>282681448I honestly wonder if the internet makes it past this century. I mean on a general level some sort of functionality will always be there, but I can't see governments putting up with it for much longer. Shit is getting more and more restricted as we speak.I'm sure it will come back eventually when humanity evolves, but it's still a privilege to have been here for the world wide web.
>>282681537How can you read through this thread and be depressed about the internet defining our generation? That invention has let us experience some amazing things. Yeah, there will always be a struggle to keep shitty corpos and governments from getting complete control over it, and we are on the losing side of that battle (right now), but don't let that taint the good times we have had.Even now, the younger generation is building an underground network on places like neocities because the smarter ones among them won't put up with corporate social media slop.
>>282683363>neocitiesThe kids are alright.
>>282630935He did it!
>>282635599I'm genuinely happy. What a self-absorbed cunt. Anyone saying otherwise was part of the problem.
>>282683571I like this one a lot.https://blamensir.neocities.org/
>>282643919when they say>unaliveit gives me visceral second hand embarrassment
>>282631220From what I've seen of the archives, /a/ seemed quite negative in 2006 too when it comes to seasonals, but more positive when it comes to more miscellaneous threads, which seems like an inversion compared to right now (very small sample size though, all the images being deleted makes browsing archives not very fun, so I haven't done it much). The negativity didn't seem like obvious bait though, unlike now.
>>282681677I dunno man, I can generate anime porn in my computer just from typing in a few gelbooru tags and clicking go, with all the right numbers of fingers and toes even, and in the exact style of some random artist I used to follow on twitter if I want to. Some five years ago this was the stuff of dreams. I'd say tech is still moving very fast.
