What causes this phenomenon in modern anime?
Zoomers.

Itano circus is a thing since the early 80s. Is that when anime action went to shit according to you?

>>282632060It's not present in older anime because, until a certain point of technological development, it wasn't *feasible* to do in anime. We can simply do faster paced fights much more cleanly and cheaply now than we could before, and directors are taking advantage of new tools that they didn't used to have. Are all of these new techniques being used well? God, no. But the point is that people are still experimenting with them, and over time we will see the techniques normalize into a happy middle ground. Think of it like the use of CG special effects in movies: it opened up a bunch of options you literally couldn't do at all before. Some movies will use it poorly, some movies will use it so well you don't even think about it. The cost of having LOTR Gollum is that you also get The Mummy 2 and bad CGI The Rock as a scorpian man.
Zooming in on the same frame 3 times isn't good directing.Dezaki is a faggot.
Lack of proper choreography anc composition means they have to compensate with shaky cam and jump cuts.

>>282633102You don't need to animate like your cameraman has parkinsons for stuff to be "fast paced". >still experimentingThis is what people still say about CGI even though regular use of CGI is 20+ years old. Will they be done experimenting even in another 80 years? And this style of animation is an obvious result of regular CGI usage. The people working on anime know they can swing the camera wildly around in a 3D space and so they do it even if it looks retarded. And it's not like you couldn't fake 3D in the past (especially in higher budget things like OVAs and movies).Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. This applies to both anime and live action movies, which have similar problems to this day.

I've gotten used to this over time, but I legitimately can't understand how anyone can follow 90% of the fights in JJK season 2, they all take place at night and are essentially a fireworks show where the camera man teleports from spark to spark in a futile attempt to follow them.
