Latter part of the exams? Sasuke loses to Gaara, Naruto has Gamabunta. Post Tsunade Arc? He gets mogged hard at the hospital and realizes he is utterly weak in progress. VOTE? Sauce gets an upgrade after parts of the K11 lap him with their own growth, so he’s about equal to Naruto.I don’t mind Naruto learning “basics” as it’s nice to see at least some things developed in training. Sasuke also needed a big boost to justify his rival/enemy status.

And then sealed again, implied that it is his plan to serve out his endless sentence of 10k years because he just keeps getting stronger with time at this point, outlive everyone and do whatever he needs, or something. He is not really a black and white villain at that point. Oh and he is completely and functionally immortal and unkillable. That's why they can't just kill him instead of the prison sentence. Either way, as in most shonen the writing is not very good with any big character, but nevertheless Aizen is a great one. When the writing is bad all you can want from a villain in a story is to be cool and intimidating and not go out humiliated, so Aizen checks all boxes.
