Why is there such a severe lack of platonic relationships in modern anime and manga? As in, friendships. >>282646304I don't necessarily think that's true. Half of all the typical MC's motivations are stuff like "I will absolutely protect my friends". It's just that friendship is a bit uninteresting to write about. It has a limit. MCs make friends all the time, it's a nice plot point, but once they're friends, that's where the character development ends, maybe prolonged by a betrayal or something.
