What happened to anime piracy?

stop being brown

Not gonna lie, things are looking dire at the moment. I really should set up some sort of system of saving stuff. But even now it feels like it's too late.

xbato seems decent, definitely better quality than mangapark

For some reason the people hosting these piracy sites simply refuse to host anywhere but inside the anglosphere's influence and are SHOCKED when they get taken down. The real shock is how long the dex stayed up in a mostly uncucked way. At this point I think within a year or two the only workable options are going to be .onion or manual torrenting of chapters aka the death of stumbling upon a series.

ITT: Retards who don't realize why centralization is bad
This is ultimately also why mangatards are the dumbest fucking people you will ever meet.

>>
>>282653992
Manga piracy is decentralized. The problem is that 99% of the nodes save it in shit quality and only one or two places save the manga in original quality.
>>
Learn how to torrent, only solution. This is only going to get worse, and eventually piracy will be wiped out altogether, but still, torrenting is the only real short term solution to your problem, and there are no long term ones.

It isn't.
Everyone was uploading to mangadex. EVERYONE. I knew dozens of people who just uploaded there and then cleaned out their project files later because they assumed they wouldn't be needed again.
>nodes
Reliant on the centralization aspect, and as you have pointed out, give you a shit release.

This would be like if all of anime piracy was centralized on a streaming site where it's a pain in the ass to download any series, and when it goes down you have to be reliant on watermarked 240p hardsubbed rips of what had been on the site.
Mangatards are spectacular fucking retards, as already stated.
>>
>>282654257
Yeah, after ComicK went down and people were talking about manga websites, I checked all the popular ones. Here are the results I got using the latest Berserk chapter (SSIM is the perceived quality difference using MangaDex as source):
MangaDex: 1700x2400, 5.4 MB
MangaFire: 1133x1600, 580 KB, 0.035% SSIM
MangaHub: 1700x2400 414 KB, 0.035% SSIM
Weeb Central: 1200x1694, 323 KB, 0.044% SSIM
MangaBox (MangaKakalot/MangaNelo): 1133x1500, 214 KB, 0.075% SSIM (missing bottom of page)
MangaPark: 727x1027, 240 KB, 0.079% SSIM
BATOTO: Wasn't available but quickly checked on an older chapter and it was quite badly compressed, was barely readable
>>
>>282654763
You have to test more than one title, sometimes more than one chapter even.
For example check "The plain girl sitting next to me" - a webcomic with ridiculously high resolution pages.
On MangaHub chapter 56 is original 2907x4096 (just compressed) but chapter 1 is downscaled to 700x986 and watermarked!
On ick clones every chapter is in original resolution.
On WC it is not available at all.
>>
>>282655097
If one manga has chapters that convert the format and lower quality, even at the same resolution, then it's already a bad alternate. They either did that themselves or got it from some other aggregator who did it, both options mean you can't rely on them having the original. That's only going to get worse over time as those get copied with worse quality by future replacements.
>>
>>282655097
I don't read shitty twitter manga, across multiple manga that I have tested the trend was similar that is: MangaDex >> MangaHub >= Weeb Central >= MangaFire >> MangaPark >> BATOTO
As for that example, here are the results (surprisingly different from the trend I have noticed):
MangaDex: 2907x4096, 3.1 MB
MangaFire: 1135x1600, 495 KB, 0.22% SSIM
MangaHub: 2907x4096, 2.5 MB, 0.012% SSIM
Weeb Central: Not found
MangaBox (MangaKakalot/MangaNelo): Broken, split in multiple images (with a MangaBuddy and a LikeManga watermark, so a copy of a copy that got broken at some point)
MangaPark: 2907x4096, 3.1 MB, 0% SSIM (same as original)
BATOTO: Not found
Also, all those websites except MangaDex are only hosting a single copy. That choice can be surprisingly bad. I checked on an older chapter of Berserk (300). MangaFire, Weeb Central, and MangaHub are using the official release. MangaDex is using a good quality scanlation. MangaBox (MangaKakalot/MangaNelo) is using a really bad quality scanlation. It's some sort of MTL with awful quality and some color shift. BATOTO is hosting both the same awful scanlation, which is even more compressed, and the official release. MangaPark is hosting both the official release and a supposed scanlation of that chapter, but it's actually a different chapter.
>>
>>282655695
I'm going to do some tests of all available mihon sources in a couple weeks to check both quality and availability of all types of content.
Got any suggestions for manga titles / chapters?
iirc Sono Bisque Doll and Kaya-chan had some pages with animated gif typeset. I wonder if even one of those shitty aggregarors preserved it.

manga is shit for torrents you mong
>>
>>282651900
Uploaded it for you, you baka.
>>
>>282655976
I think you will be disappointed, they all compress everything.
>>
>>282659526
It's still worth finding the least bad options. Maybe one has the best resolution and quality, except for adding watermarks to part of it. Another may keep every page but at much lower quality. There's also the problem of a chapter being scraped once, but corrections were made that never made it anywhere else.
>>
I still dont understand why they dont just also upload on p2p or DL, so people can archive or whatever, just uploading to a site and forgeting about it is just retarded

t. someone that wants to catch up on non weekly shonen manga and everything is a mess or its not simply on Nyaa or TT

Mangadex still has all the files, just not accessible by users, and I assume Comick's owner also has the site's backup. How come they don't dump torrents with all of it like decent human beings?
>>
>>282661979
The smart way is to say they got hacked, and have the "hacker" release all the code and files.
>>
>>282654726
I used to get in arguments for saying that online reading websites were the same as streaming anime instead of downloading it. now I'm just laughing.
>>
>>282662191
This shit happens and everyone whines for a while until a new site comes out. Then everyone collects around that one place again (and you even saw it with Comick this time) and then eventually that site goes the same way and it repeats and repeats. Comick went down especially quick though. And the funny thing is that there are still people using these reading sites to track what they read and they have to scramble every time the site goes down.

Become a mangakakalot GOD

>who just uploaded there and then cleaned out their project files later because they assumed they wouldn't be needed again.
I had been fearing this. I figured that maybe if you can locate the scanlator's Discord/whatever (given they're active) they may still provide uploads with the original files (given they're not obnoxious faggots) but if they never kept backups then it's over.
>>
>>282662504
It's the worst aggregator, you are brown if you like using that website.
>>
>>282659813

Not a real alternative to anything.

>>
>>282662504
Didn't they die for awhile this year? Also a lot of their series are broken

Is it to hard to be a normal weeb and upload it to torrent sites once completed or in batches?

Stop relying on streaming sites/online manga sites for this reason, I found it pretty easily. For anything that isn't an ongoing manga torrenting will always be better.

many of the misses are retarded broken search
mihon extension uses full search page, not a quick search popup, and that one can't parse special symbols and requires full sequential words, also sometimes it only has official english title which has nothing to do with real translation of original title.

Is there even one good actively maintained client for windows left?

there's a 2020 dex dump on nyaa for all your ancient backlog needs.
anything more recent is fucked.
