This is an insult to manga as a visual medium as it wants to so badly be a mature novel instead of taking advantage the "show dont tell" aspect that a visual story SHOULD tell. However even if it was turned into a book it would be even MORE of a confusing mess which makes hunter x hunter itself a mess. Many third worlders read hunter x hunter and see lots of words so they just assume the manga is very smart and not a fucking insult to their intelligence

It’s literally impossible to convey some of the aspects about nen without the text. You can argue he can do it through more show don’t tell, but then the story would be WAY LONGER. If the succession war arc was pure show don’t tell we’d still be at Halkenbrugs awakening at 410.What I do think Togashi should cut down on is character theorizing. They don’t show enough personality through it for it to be a character building thing , and most of the theories have no plot relevance. It’s mostly Togashi’s way of showing “hey, everyone here is a free individual with free thinking!” But it bogs everything down for superficial “everyone matters” crap
