Update for those asking about books (manga, doujin, etc) being exempt from jp to us shipments. I just had my first post-tariff DHL express shipment clear customs (customs documents submitted soon after it got on a plane, and about 12 hours after the payment request updated on the tracking number). The total declared value was about $700. Roughly 60% of the value was manga and doujins. The rest was a mix of games, acrylic stands, figures, and other stuff like that by every resource I looked at would be taxed at 15%. I did napkin math to figure out what I should expect and was prepared to argue if they tried to shake me down for anything over $70 in tariffs. Figures got assigned 3926400090 which looks like it covers plastic statues. The acrylic stands were assigned 3906905000. Well, I'm in Japan, moved here, brought some of my favorite scales with me, wrapped them all properly in bubble wrap, and they all survived 2 flights and 2 yamato transports in my luggage. Even had amico-chan deliver one of my orders to my apartment here. For some reason, I did NOT get this months Amico card though, they just put basic white card with my name and address in the box ( pic related). Just put up my yamato wa maximum for display and had a quick question. UPS is really stupid with the tariffs. So I have to pay $211 in order to get my package because of tariff bs. The dumb part is they'll knock on your door with your box, tell you that you need to pay or they won't give you the box but they only take payment in paper checks. No other payment options, can't scan a card or anything. Or any advance notice like dhl will charge you before they try shipping to you. I have to call a number to pay the tariff and then they'll come back again tomorrow to deliver.
