This is Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, the objective most successful anime of all time. It has made around $600 million at the box office which shattered all anime records.
Which it is successful with a small budget, and sounds like a huge success of anime winning animation. However, it becomes clear that anime is very far behind in success.
There are over 42 animated films that made more then Demon Slayer, even considering per-inflation. There are around 15 that made over a billion, something no anime has gotten close to doing.
Even worse, it appears this is not just a USA whipping Anime moment, but other countries as well. Just this year China has released Ne Zha 2, which has made around 4x what Demon Slayer did (Ne Zha 1 also surpassed this film by a 1.5x margin). Furthermore, it is not even the biggest asian demon animated film this year: the Kpop Demon Hunters movie has shattered all streaming records and is expecting to amass Netflix billion. Even more, Zootopia 2 is projected to make a billion minimum in a few months, which would place Demon Slayer as fourth biggest anime film of the year, which is hardly matching what is said to be Anime's big moment.
Despite anime having a head start and online perception, why did it get surpassed by other Asian animation scenes and never catch up to the west? What is anime missing to go mainstream?

Anime movies are, for the most part, products made to appeal to fans of an already established franchise. Unlike Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks content, they are not created to appeal to a wide range of profitable demographics (mostly families and children), but rather to young adults, mostly males. It is content made primarily for fans, not the general public. As a result, it will never be able to reach the same wide demographic and therefore money-making potential as, let's say, something like Zootopia or Toy Story. Disney movies can be watched by the general public without any further knowledge needed. You simply see an ad for a colorful, family-friendly movie, take your family to the theater, and then you move on. That's it. This concept doesn't really apply to anime movies. Anime movies are the kind of movie you'd watch alone as a young guy or maybe a teenager after you've already consumed the TV version of the franchise.

Of course, there are anime original movies you can watch without any further knowledge needed, but even then, they aren't really designed to appeal to a wide range of diverse demographics. It also doesn't help that it's mostly Studio Ghibli creating high-quality anime original movies that receive any sort of advertising in the West.

Anime, as an industry, is designed around making many smaller-budget projects that generate profit by appealing to a dedicated core audience, whereas Disney's animation department is designed to generate profit through only a small number of movie projects with massive budgets and marketing costs.

Both of them have completely different approaches to generating money. Disney holds a monopoly on the Western animation industry. That's why they can afford to invest massive amounts of money into their movies, which will then generate large amounts of income in return. The anime industry doesn't function that way; there is no monopoly in the Japanese animation industry. It's a bunch of small animation studios.

How many dollars did KDH earn? Not by views which is not equal to sales, unless it is "pay per show". And Nezha flopped in USA, Japan and Korea.

Why is there no chinese and korean media in world's highest grossing media franchise list? DFO's sale is from China mostly, and heroes doesn't speak Korean and only speak gibberish tho.
Are Koreans and Chinese terrible at media mix? Why cannot they get on this list when they are censoring less than Japan and become black ship fleets to take over Japanese media?

LMAO. It doesn't even play in the same league as Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer has generated far more than 10 billion dollars at this point, and it's only going to grow from here on, especially with the upcoming 2 movies. DS has been popular for over 7 years now, and there seems to be no end in sight.

You can cope all you want, Jeremy, but the fact of the matter is that Demon Slayer is already a cultural phenomenon. And unlike Ching Zha 2 and Gook Slop hunters, the Demon Slayer movie actually managed to gross a fuck ton of money in Western countries.

Also, what happened to your projection that it would never be able to pass Diaperman's movie box office? KEK! You are so fucking retarded and obsessed, Jeremy. Can't wait for your meltdown when the next Demon Slayer movie comes out.

kny climbs on the shoulders of something already built, empowers it by millions and removes all traces of the search for "the warmth of other men, which was the main characteristic of his ancestor.

Is KDH American slop? Its female protagonists are ugly and eating manner is shit. While boys look effeminate and gay, to call as Asian animation. I thought Korea would hate woke, but it looks quite woke, with girlboss eating like animal and effeminate bois.
