Chapter 27Shima's short time in China had given him a rather grim forecast of Hatsushiba's prospects and Japan's role in global trade in general. They were being outcompeted by local Chinese companies both in China and abroad as manufacturing had shifted there due to the lower wages of the workers. His own thoughts were for Hatsushiba to set up production in China to manufacture products there as well where they could be made cheaper for both the local Chinese market and exported back out to Japan and other countries for cheaper. Even though this would negatively affect Japan's domestic manufacturing, it was seen as an unfortunate but unavoidable consequence of trying to compete globally. But Shima had other, more personal problems, as well as after a bizarre visit to Vixen he found out that Chaco Mama had started using heroin. She'd started doing it along with her lover, the wine critic Robert Baker, who'd been supplied it by the shady underworld-affiliated businessman (and partial owner of Vixen) Liu Yansheng. With Shima's help and a hospital stay, Chaco was able kick her habit and decided to wash her hands of her bar and China and head back to London, separating from Baker in the process who would shortly wind up killed by some of Liu's men. But Shima and Chaco weren't the only ones having issues with Liu as Yang Chunhua, Shima's secretary, had her family's personal business ruined by him, the shock of which mentally broke her father. She thus has sworn to not rest until Liu is punished for his crimes and to that effect, promised to protect Shima and wanted to take her to meet her Taijiquan master after she'd personally fought off some goons sent by Liu's lover to rough her up.
Is it still a "lady of the week" manga ?
>>282772396No and it hasn't really been that for a long time. It's mostly morphing into author turning into a grumpy old man as Japan continues to stagnate.
That's it for today. Next time, a plan is formulated to deal with Liu.
>>282772429>the cancer you developed 20 years later, yeah that was my Taijiquan at work
Good to see you again, OP.I saw the chapters drop yesterday, but refrained from reading waiting for the monthly Hatsushib/a/ meeting.
>>282772052Shima Kosaku my beloved
>>282772693Yeah, in all honesty this chapter feels like filler because it winds up having no relevance to anything and all the chi and pressure point mumbo jumbo. The only way I can see it being relevant is in a metaphorical sense.Chunhua's actions in fighting off her attackers don't immediately damage Liu but are the starting point to his downfall so they damaged him over time.
>>282772429>Yeah those kung fu dudes might break your bones or whatever, but wenfuck up your chi, so who's the real winner?
>>282772576Thank you for posting, OP. Good to see you again.

Hatsushibump
>>282772478I started reading it expecting a realistic depiction of office politics, so I lost interest early on when it was focused on love affairs. This chapter looks like something out of an action manga, maybe Shin Kujakuoh.
>>282775405It's still fairly realistic it's just that some times the author wants to add a little crime drama or other elements to it as well.
>>282772052hell yeah
>>282773928She failed to get 'em
>>282772576Thanks OP. >Next time, a plan is formulated to deal with Liu.Will involve battles?
>>282772258I can't believe it's turning into a kung fu montage, this manga really has it all.
>>282772161he's going to challenge shima in a mortal kombat.
>>282772576thanks op.
I keep seeing sets of this manga on bookoff and it piqued my interest. I have to say I was not expecting the first chapter I read to be about tai chi and assassins... I thought he'd be in business rooms, but I guess with a long running series like this you can really do everything.
>>282779060>I guess with a long running series like this you can really do everythingYou have no idea how right you are.
Can Hatsushiba's coffers cover this thread's sponsorship needs?
I wonder if Hirokane is happy about the new PM considering the foreign minister from the last volume was based on her IIRC and he mentioned that he took Chizuru's family name from her.
>>282783079Huh, when I saw her photo she did remind me of someone in Shima for some reason.
are we fucking back? is this the first thread this batch?
>>282784250Yes

>>282790356No it isn't. I waited the 60 seconds, and THEN it started telling me it was "too soon". Over and over. Repeatedly. For like three minutes before I finally hit cancel and just left it up, as you can see by the difference in time between the two posts.

>chapter 27I missed a lot.
>>282789848I just always say the most apt comparison is Mad Men. Shima even started out in advertising.
Kosakino is back on the menu!
Chapter 28
>>282795629She's something of a retread of Laura from the Philippines arc but I liked Laura so that's okay.
>>282800745eh laura was pretty but forgetful in my opinion, shima's gay buddy was a lot more memorable. also shunhua is more or less my height and I find that hot.
That's it for now. Next time, the plan against Liu starts to be put into action.
>>282801157what a dumb line, shima-san. thanks op.

>>282801053Shima Tougo, Hatsushiba-13.
>>282800770>But you're an employee of the reputable company Shanghai Hatsushiba Electric Co., Ltd.Is he really saying the "Co., Ltd" part out loud? Almost feels like the translator making a joke.
>>282809645this is just shima asserting his japanese salaryman dominance over the girl. as you can see later, it worked.
>>282809645>Is he really saying the "Co., Ltd" part out loud?I choose to believe he did, because it is funnier
>>282809645It's easier to ritualistically say the company type as part of the name in Japanese, especially when (if) it's prepended.Would have to see the raws, I don't know if they attach 株式会社 or 合弁会社 to 上海初芝電 or what but it's not unusual. In English it'd be more like formally saying "The XYZ Company" for emphasis instead of just XYZ. Translating it as Co Ltd in this context is, if not machine translation, kind of rote/not paying attention to the tone perhaps.>>282801936She's canonically 170cm, which is like 5'6 on a good day. But it's manga so it looks like 6 feet.

>>282772052Is this a daily? I want to catch up
>>282826843It's a daily when there's a new volume. You should be able to find everything in the archives though you can just grab it all from the scanlator's site. Division Chief (the second series) got caught up in the big Mangadex purge for some reason.
That's it for today. Next time, Shima and Co. Ltd. meet with Sun Rui, the head of one of China's largest manufacturers.

>>282800965Seems a bit risky to be speaking Japanese in front of him.
>>282826835>>282826870This series has never been shy about blending genres before and honestly it's kind of scary this time. All these happy cheerful salarymen who just wanna do cute salaryman things skirting around the edge of a lawless underworld that might reach out and devour them at any second. Mangame went from shrewd competition to a competent Pres who always has a smile on his face and I don't want to imagine him kidnapped by some chinese mob and tied to a chair.
>>282832042I just assume that after Section Chief, Hirokane didn't want to keep having to rely on him to solve every situation. In universe it could just be that he's getting older and can't get up to doing all the same stuff he could before.
