I have a running theory that the part about his backstory that we haven't been told yet is that he genuinely did love the occult and the incident that got him and Eiko cursed was actually his idea in the first place. I think when he saw the consequences of what he did to Eiko he became a shut in and started hating the occult while Eiko ended up getting a taste for it. Basically Keitaro is the reason Eiko is batshit insane in the first place, which is why she's so adamant that he actually loves the occult.
The Halloween rewatch will be on October 25th and November 1st.
