It's like looking at Billboard Top 40 charts and arguing that it's the best music ever made.Simply said it's stuff that is palatable to casuals, because there simply aren't that many people who are really deep into anime out there. To be clear I think the shows I have seen here are all at least good, even if they don't make my personal favorites. Stuff like Frieren and FMAB being popular has to be the least surprising thing ever; not too short or too long, decent pacing, fantasy, good production values, nothing too eclectic or strange that would scare away the average casual like loli, mecha, incest, mahou shoujo. Simply said these are just really safe anime, I could probably show them to my coworkers or my nephew and they probably would like them.Also highest rated = least disliked rather than most liked. Even if you didn't love these anime, chances are you probably didn't hate them at the least.And then the rest can very simply be explained by shounen + good production values + survivor bias because it's later entries. Nobody who didn't already love Gintama would watch up to The Final, likewise the only people who watched the CSM movie in theaters are people who were already fans. Random anime viewer A is never gonna stumble into watching One Piece Fan Letter, it's all people who already loved OP, so there's nobody to drag down the average score.The only anomaly here is LotGH but I haven't seen it so I can't comment.Once you realize how these ratings sites work it becomes pretty obvious. So while none of these anime make my personal favorites I'm not surprised or offended that these are widely popular.But anyway you will never have a decent discussion on this topic, because less than 5% of anime viewers are capable of explaining why they think something is good or bad.

And chances are if I didn't care for the first 100+ episodes the best parts later on will not radically change my opinion.The only 2 kinds of people I see who enjoy Gintama are either; people who think Shounen Jump is the pinnacle of anime and manga and therefore a show that constantly references it is their wet dream. And fujos, unironically. It's relatively popular with women because it has a huge cast of hot guys and barely any women to go around and basically 0 straight romance.
