And they also directed the show with the jumbled order in mind. Such as Koizumi’s first appearance being Asahina walking out of the foreground, revealing Koizumi sitting at the table, drawing attention to him in a way that surprises the viewer. Or Nagato’s alien abilities being shown off in the episode after she reveals what she is to Kyon. And we get a shot of her face from the Asakura episode spliced in before cutting back to the present as she’s about to demonstrate the baseball bat hack. These shots lose all meaning in chronological order and become seemingly random directorial choices.
