I started watching in 2012. It took me 6 years to reach 8000 episodes of anime watched and in the last 7 years I watched less than 300 episodes. I can maybe watch 4 episodes a day if I really force myself and have nothing to do all day. I've been trying to finish Grand Blue second season and only managed to watch 6 episodes in 3 days. I remember finishing the first season in one sitting back in 2018.
I think anime is over for me. I will try to finish the few series I started and stop watching it completely. No need to torture myself.
Anybody else feels this way?

I have less than 100 anime on my list in 5 years
>>
I used to watch 13+ episodes a day but now I'm down to 6. I still manage to watch everything airing but it's getting harder and harder.
I spend a lot more time on manga these days.
>>
The most important thing is to have enough different hobbies that you can switch up how much time you spend on each when you begin to get tired of one of them. I took a long break from anime between 2008 and 2018 and the result is that I now have 10 years of time-tested shows to catch up on, on top of the seasonals I started watching again.

It also helps to periodically review which genres/themes/styles you're most into right now. Stop bothering with the ones that often disappoint you. If a show inside your niche doesn't hook you within the first 1-2 eps, drop it and move on.

And for the love of all that is sacred, never treat it like a grind. Making numbers go up is an addiction, not a hobby.

I found it easier to focus on finishing one seires first before starting something new. If I just watch multiple shows at once I start to lose interest in finishing something I already started

I have been watching seasonal anime for 20 years. I thought I'd be off of it after a year. Now I don't even know.
>>
>>282821195
Stop watching seasonal trash
>>
>>282821195
I watched anime from 90s but then I didn't even know Sailormoon or Dragon Ball were anime at all. That I learned from around 2000s time.
Initially for bunch of years I tried to watch many many shows each season but from around 15 years now I only watch the shows I like, so max 4-5 shows each season if it's good one if not 2-3 max.
>>
>>282821195
I will never understand the mindset one has when it comes to treating these pastime activities as chores. I see this in gaming circles, reading, art etc
Are you in some competition? Is this your full time job? Are you losing money by not completing more episodes? Why are you like this? You wanna watch a show, watch it. You have nothing to watch, go do something else.
>>
There are people who have watched thousands upon thousands of anime episodes and yet still need english subs.
>>
>>282823320
Don't be ableist. Some of them don't even know English.
>>
>>282823320
I have a feeling that if I learn japanese watching anime will lose it's magic to me
>>
>>282821195
Probably. Or at least reading manga, anyway.
But it's doubtful I'll get mired by a swamp of seasonals andf try to keep up with all at once again.
Did that in the beginning and it burned me out, and while the FOMO is kinda real and discussing things as they air is fun, many of these seasonal shows have become a bit of a blur.
>>
>>282823469
That's like saying learning how to draw will ruin manga for you, or learning how to play an instrument will ruin music, or learning any language will ruin that culture's literature.
>>
>>282821195
I have always watched anime on and off and don’t do crazy binges so even though I’m in my thirties now and have been watching since I was like 5 I feel like there will always be more good anime to watch. I feel kind of bad for those people where anime is their major number one only hobby and they legitimately start to run out of stuff to watch once they are 40 something years old have seen 3000 anime and don’t want to watch new seasonals. Anyway I feel like anime will always be a part of my life in some form, or manga, or JRPGs even.

>I still manage to watch everything airing but it's getting harder and harder.
I would probably kms if I tried to watch everything airing. The summer season was the best in years and I managed to watch 8 series and will eventually catch up the bunny girl -senpai sequel too. t. 20k episodes in ~23 years
>>
>>282823840
*12k episodes
>>
>>282823840
This, but I watched 23 series and I'm still trying to catch up on 5 more. There's eating good, and then there's dying of obesity.
I normally try to restrict myself to ~10 shows per season. Being less selective usually means having less fun.
>>
started to read manga

once you watch the "essentials" and whatnot of yesteryear then it becomes what? season filler of rehashed stories (but now with shittier digi animation). it's no different from coonsuming tv shows

I've experienced a kind of bell curve. I got my first PC near the of high school in 2010. Had the freedom to discover torrenting whatever I wanted and started watching anime more frequently than i was prior to that. It was either ecchi stuff or "classics" that people talked about here. Then 2015 to 2020 I moved out and watched a shit ton of anime in my free time between IRL social stuff. 50-75 series a year between seasonal and backlog stuff. After the coof started and I had to be home all the time I started playing way more video games because it was more engaging and something I could still do with my friends. I still watched anime but much less and it has dwindled every year. I'll be lucky if I finish 5 seasonal anime by the end of the year and I only finished 1 backlog show that I started in 2023.

If I have free alone time I opt for vidya now, and I think my standards have gone up quite a bit. Most anime has always been shit, but even with the higher production quality seasonal stuff now, far less of it appeals to me than it used to.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones, anon-kyun.
>>
>>282825193
As a glass house inhabitant who watches anime all day and has fun doing so, I'm pretty confident throwing stones at vidya chumps who keep complaining about their own hobby.
"Standards" mean nothing if they make you miserable and more exploited.
>>
>>282821195
My dad started watching anime in the 70s, and he's still watching now. I've been watching anime for over 30 years already, picked up 25 seasonals this Fall, not sure what else to tell you.
>>
>>282821195
Became an avid anime watcher since 2000. Dont watch anime like before but at least I follow one per season.

Okay. I guess what I meant was that I would have probably checked out Sunrise's isekai show this season if it had aired a few years ago simply because it has higher than average visuals. But now I can't be bothered. There is nothing that appeals to me this season.

I stopped using MAL a decade ago. If I had to guess, I would probably have around 800 completed titles by this point. Which is not even that much, I remember anons who had more than a thousand, because back in those days, the size of your e-peen on /a/ was measured by the length of your MAL.
I remember burning out on anime around 2018, which is when I just stopped watching, besides a few really big shows that I couldn't miss, like One Punch Man. I was far more into video games and /jp/ shit back then. But this year, I actually went back to anime. I'm rebuilding my collection, I watched a bunch of stuff, and I'm following the seasonals again. And I'm having tons of fun. Meanwhile, vidya is kinda shit right now, the only thing I'm playing with any sort of interest is that Trails in the Sky remake.
These things come and go, so never say never.
>>
>>282825500
>There is nothing that appeals to me this season.
That has nothing to do with your standards and everything to do with this season. Fuck this season.
If you're looking for stuff to watch, catch up on last Summer or Spring's critically acclaimed shows. Especially Summer.

I watched Ruri no Houseki, Panty & Stocking and I still need to finish CITY.
>>
>>282825649
Good start. Finish CITY, then watch Hikaru, Takopii, Yofukashi, Milky Subway and Dandadan.
>>
>>282825699
Oh yeah I forgot about Takopii, thanks for the reminder. I might check out some of the others too in the absence of anything to watch this season.
>>
>>282821195
I started watching anime other than Dragon Ball in the early 2000 but pretty much everything I've watched I watched back then. I barely watch modern anime.

anidb says 45k episodes for me.
At some point I stopped adding dropped series and only added the ones I finished.
Started seriously in 2007.
>>
Trump will likely ban anime next year.
>>
>>282825988
>At some point I stopped adding dropped series and only added the ones I finished.
My compromise is to add shows as dropped if I watched at least 3 episodes. Anything less than that counts as not having watched it at all.

Have been watching since 2007 or so. Anime definitely became shittier with time, at least the majority of it. It is about the same amount of watchable shows per season, but a season consists of 50+ anime instead of 15-20. I blame isekais, they overstayed their welcome by at least 7 years now.

Is this the bragging thread?
Stats since December 2024
>>
>>282827118
Did you only make a MAL account in 2024 or did you start watching anime/reading manga in 2024? Because I wouldn't consider the latter being room for bragging.
>>
>>282827118
What does Mean Score mean?
It this some gamification feature where you get points from watching anime?
>>
Started arround 2011 and watched pretty much everything woth watching. I still watch but I become very picky for both manga and anime. I used to destroy anything in 1 - 2 days, read whole ass manga with 100 chapter just because I saw one page here and got me interested. But despite becoming very picky, I still enjoy the ones I watch/read just like back then. I expect I'll become even more picky as I get more older.(29 now)
>>
>>282827262
What? It's just the average of your ratings.
>>
>>282827234
Made the account in 2024 because I started watching a lot more anime and wanted some way to keep track of everything.
Before creating the account I had only watched a handful of shows so the vast majority of entries are in the last year.
>>282827262
It's the average score I've given to the anime I've watched.
>>
>>282827374
The age rating of anime?
Shouldn't the mean be above 8 for most people here?
>>
>>282827425
>It's the average score I've given to the anime I've watched.
Can you explain that further? Why would you give scores to an anime?
>>
>>282823320
>There are people who have watched thousands upon thousands of anime episodes and yet still need english subs.
Well I don't need japanese in my work or earlier in my studies, anime was always a hobby for me from around 30 years now, and I never really wanted to learn japanese to read manga or watch anime reasoning.
I don't watch dubs and only anime with eng subs and it is ok.
Like other anon said anime and manga would stop being special if I knew exactly what they are saying by my own.
>>
>>282827460
No reason. I don't write any reviews, I just score the anime after I've finished watching it.
>>
>>282827463
>I don't watch dubs and only anime with eng subs and it is ok.
But you read translated manga?
>>
>>282821195
>Will you watch anime forever?
Probably not. I started as a kid and now that I'm in my 30s I barely watch anything. I now tend to like manga more since you can read as fast or slow as you want without missing anything, on top of usually being the author's vision and making it less likely you get spoilers. Even with manga though, one thing that has been filtering me as I get older is that I get more and more annoyed with teenager characters behaving like teenagers, and those are the majority.
>>
How many episodes do you anons watch for gathering your own interest in a new show? For me it's like the first 3/4 episodes before I decide to either continue it or drop it.
>>
>>282821195
I've been watching Japanese TV shows since 1989. I've been watching anime since 1999. I am here forever.
>>
>>282821195
I wish I could live forever to actually watch anime forever
>>
>>282827724
1-6 depending on the show. If I don't see any potential left in a series I'm not going to waste further time on it. But I'm willing to give all of them a chance and an episode is far more representative than some synopsis, promo or source material/comicalization.
For multi cours series I'll also consider dropping them after a cours.
>>
>>282827724
I drop a series that fails to be interesting in 10 minutes. And I have a very high tolerance on top of that
>>
>>282827724
1 episode
It's not hard to write a good hook and if the writers can't do that, it doesn't bode well for the rest of the series.

1-3 episodes. for genres that I don't like or often disappoint me I give one episode, everything else gets at least 2 episodes which I think is fair.

>I will never understand the mindset one has when it comes to treating these pastime activities as chores.
FOMO. You just got into a hobby and now you hear people talking about a bunch of things you don't know. They're excited for new things coming out while reminiscing about the good things from before your time. You want to fit in, to give your opinion too, to laugh at the memes and not be called newbie. But first you need to do a bunch of "chores" AKA actually engaging with the hobby before engaging with its social aspects.
