i have not seen any digimon series after frontier, are any of them worth my time?
>>282831645Savers is amazing
The only one not worth it is Young Hunters, the 02 of Xros Wars. Also read the Xros Wars manga. The anime is good, but the manga is better.Colon, the Adventure remake isn't nearly as good as the original, but it's worth watching for the fights, which are some of the best in the entire franchise.
>>282831645Gonna be honest it's hard to recapture that crazy ass magic of the weird world of the first one, where nothing made sense and that was the point. It was Alice in Wonderland with dinosaur brawls and that's what was unique about it, it even lost a bit coming to the real world but them jumping back in and everything changed helped bring it back for the ending.02 is a fucking disaster. Aimless, none of the wonder of the original, a bunch more time in the real world being boring, characters are all useless except 2 of them(This might sound familiar to you, 02 did it first), plotpoints that get either forgotten or abruptly dropped in the span of a single episode and never mentioned again, both reliant on power scaling but entirely out of whack for what it's supposed to be(MagnaAngemon is going to confuse the fuck out of you as to what he can actually do), and it ends on a care bear stare. Awful, just awful.Tamers is great, and stands out from the other series in that it finally gives the Digimon their own character arcs instead of just going with whatever's happening with their kids. They have doubts and leave, one of them goes on a rampage not because his kid makes him but because he's really sad about an event and we get to see inside his brain about it, there's a lot to enjoy even if the main gimmick gets dropped way too early and a lot of the late game characters are thin as plastic(Like a certain "Hey he was in the games, lets throw him in and do nothing with him!" character...)Savers is great too, only downside is the digimon slip back into being just side characters for their kids and don't really have their own arcs. Agumon for instance is fun but you'd be hard pressed to find a difference between start and finish version.Xros Wars first half is fun and has a lot of the original charm, but second half drops the friends that, I'm just gonna say it, may have been comic relief but they were damn good comic relief. Ignore Hunters, it SUUUCKKKS
>>282831645>SaversThe most like the earlier seasons, but also where we go from "relatively down to earth kid angst" to "goofy anime backstories with half european nobles, street fighting punks who punch monsters, teenage special agents, etc." Despite this, it's the one that keeps the most to the structure and themes of the original shows. Like almost all the series, it kind of fumbles its gimmick a bit (the digimon fucking things up in the real world like criminals, not world ending terrors) and really dropping the ball on the non-Red/Blue kids.>XrosWe're in full on ridiculous merch toy show now, but is still relatively recognizable as a Digimon show like Seasons 1-5. There's less characters and everyone kind of less engaging in general, but there's some fun in the set up of its Digital World and villains. And as an addendum>Xros HuntsWe're getting on really shaky ground now. More annoying MC, previous cast kind of jettisoned, and its basically some kind of short patch season due to time slot shenanigans. It's kind of fun to see the crossovers with the earlier seasons, but it's mostly wasted.>AppmonSome people talk it up, but I found it almost intolerable. We're deep in the annoying kiddy merch show abyss now, full of stupid fucking plots and MCs and annoying stock footage. It still has something going for it, but it's buried under layers on innane, tedious nonsense that has none of the kid adventure charm that even Xros initially had.
>>282832363>ColonGreat animation and it's fun to see a modern spin on the original cast and plots, including some fun references if you dug more into the "lore" most of the English speaking world never saw. It's got its own serious problems, exacerbated by both Covid and leaks. Not to mention a frankly baffling level of Taichi wank that is shocking even given the usual level of wank he gets in Adventure material. That said, I'd easily consider it worth watching over Xros and Appmon if you want something more like the adventuring feel of the original seasons. The animation is also really notable, it's worth repeating, and if you're at all nostalgic for being a stupid child engaged by cool evolution sequences, it will deliver on that.>Ghost GameMy favorite of basically everything since Tamers, even after rewatching it all. The biggest problem is it lacks a myth arc to the degree that even Appmon has one over on it here if only for actually having a cryptic final boss and his minions doing their evil villain monologs to each other every so often. But on almost every other level, it's up there with the best post-Adventure seasons on its own merits. Fun characters, fun digimon dynamics, almost every episode is some horrifying, fun, and/or bizarre story involving weird Digimon powers and plots. It lacks some of the simple adventure show charm of Adventure, though, and there's not much Digital World itself either. But I appreciate how distinct it is and how much it committed to its hook.
>>282831645No, it peaked at Adventure and died midway into 02, everything beyond that is either dumb new stuff or garbage perfumed with nostalgia.
>>282831645Savers is fine and still on the same level as Frontier or 02 I'd say. Xros Wars can be skipped easily if youre just not interested. I havent watched any Digimon anime past Xros wars.
>>282832363>street fighting punks who punch monstersI liked Savers as a whole but I always got annoyed at how much people kept regurgitating the 'punching Digimon lmao' gimmick when it barely has any significance.>MC gets magic lights on his fist because evolution gimmick>Goes to punch big digimon for some dumb reason>Big ass digimon at most flinches or loses its balance for a second, but as expected no actual damage occurs>Battle proceeds to work exactly like in every other digimon show, with the digimon doing everything and the human being a cheerleader
