I didn't watch the episode in time for the thread, but to anons calling the person saying the mangaka hates his characters a schizo, I've read quite a few of his interviews in Japanese and it's pretty clear that he is very very detached from his work and characters and doesn't really like them (at least as of 1-2 years ago when those interviews were from). There might be an anti-Yor or whatever schizo but at least the statement while a bit overblown is not a lie.
>>282852097Well you can provide quotes. In Japanese of course.
>>282852238I'm going to be totally honest, I don't have them anymore since as I said it was 1-2 years ago, I'm not sure if it was from an online or print interview or from a comment in a manga contest or what. I'll try finding something online for a few minutes, if I can't find anything then you can take the W if that makes you happy.
>>282852238My search was not going well but now it seems I have some hope.
>>282852097Wasnt there an interview or something>No, I'm not gonna try to provide the source, I don't care that much, don't askWith the author recognizing Spy x Family being a success not only surprised him but low-key annoyed him because he had already met failure with the ideas he had wanted to draw while Spy x Family was basically just a soulless mix of ideas he (of an editor) thought would succeed but lacked the interest in drawing for an actual serialization
>>282852337Yes on multiple occasions he's said he wanted to draw something else and that this was a calculated business like series for him
>>282852238It seems the source of the quote was from the fanbook, that agrees with my memories, I'll take a look.
>>282852097I'm not entirely sure exactly what interview you're talking about, but if it's the one that became a clickbait headline saying he doesn't like his characters then it's nothing but out of context lies. The context of that quote is him jokingly talking about wanting a character design to be more gruff and rough but he settled on a leaner pretty boy look instead which he laughs it off by saying he has no attachment to.That design he's talking about is Daybreak btw who was the original design for Twilight.
>>282852410I'm aware that it popped off as a topic but I wouldn't be so quick to swallow your claim that it was out of context lies which is why I'm reading the long interview where it spawned from in Japanese right now.
Judging by some recent storylines I think he's figuring out how to enjoy it
>>282852463OP here, that is good to hear. Again I'm talking more about his state 1-2 years ago. He did say he started the series treating it as a mangaka rehab in this interview so it seems that's been working out.
>>282852238Okay here it is, page 186.加藤:遠藤さんがイケメンを描いたことに拍手編集:ずっと提案してた(笑)。「カッコいいと可愛いは漫画で大事ですよ」作者:だからキャラに愛着がゼロなんですよ。色々諦めた結果なので(笑)So, on top of SPY x FAMILY not really being the kind of story he wanted to draw originally, and him also saying that he gave up on being someone like Togashi and doing an ambitious work like Hunter x Hunter, here he says he was unable to come to like the character as a result of making the character cool (and designed to be marketable, is, I assume the point here). Now, of course you can't let one statement dictate what you think about an entire person's life but I do think this sways closer towards evidencing that he doesn't care much for his characters, as the other main characters are also clearly designed to be cute/etc (as the editor has cleared told him to make them so, in the quote above as well it's restated)
>>282852594They also say if it was the old him he would have made Loid a gruff old man who is 三枚目 (treated like a laughingstock? perhaps I'm not getting the meaning).>>282852410So in other words your "context" is quite mistaken, I'm not sure if you got it from the fandom or twitter or something. Obviously you're not totally wrong in that he did laugh while saying his statement, but the actual facts of the interview are not represented by your take at all. I have some kind of autism that makes me want to correct people, I'm not here to argue with you.And they're not talking about Daybreak specifically either if I'm not mistaken, it's just about him drawing ikemen in general (of course implying Loid)
>>282852640>And they're not talking about Daybreak specifically either if I'm not mistakenThe original design of Twilight IS Daybreak. He wanted Daybreak to be the design of the main character but could not commit to that rougher design and went with the sleeker ikemen design as stated. And that turned into a bait headline taken out of context saying he does not care about any of his characters.
>>282852702>The original design of Twilight IS DaybreakI know.>He wanted Daybreak to be the design of the main character but could not commit to that rougher design and went with the sleeker ikemen design as stated. And that turned into a bait headline taken out of context saying he does not care about any of his characters. My point is that that is not reflected in the interview. Another mangaka was saying that it was surprising that Tatsuya actually drew ikemen characters. The context is not as you stated which makes your statements very hard to trust overall.
>>282852702I'm only speaking about your statements btw. Not you of course. You could have just been misled by some random dude on the internet, it's not your fault. I'm just trying to share the "truth" as my autism compels me.Anyway if you want you can OCR the interview page (it's on e-/exhentai) and throw it in deepl or something. All the best, I've done my service now.
>>282852097>to anons calling the person saying the mangaka hates his characters a schizoYou can prove them wrong by sharing the results of your psychiatrist evaluation
>>282852097I unironically hate Franky and Yuri thoughever
>>282852965I'm not that anon, also read the thread I shared the source. You can come to your own judgment.
