It's more worthwhile, if still perhaps a futile endeavor, to examine shows that seem to be rated highly or considered superior within an enthusiast market. The demographic and popularity is more constrained and people are more willing to try and justify their opinions on lines that can be properly interrogated.

There is no conflict because he's an invincible jack-of-all-trades, and there's little to muster in terms of intrigue from the world around him. He doesn't give a shit that something medically and physically impossible transported him inside of a video game, almost as much as he doesn't give a shit about what's happening around him beyond some vague sense of detached curiosity. Guy's got the personality of a fucking cardboard stand. The side characters are window dressing, talking Macguffins at best that serve as equal parts popcorn-fluff wish fulfillment microdose and filler episode excuse if they're Ainz's servant, and squishy wafflestomp targets if they aren't (and aren't cartoonishly good-guy). Ainz has no real reason to do anything other than giga-explode anyone and anything that gets in his way (and several things that *don't*), to the point of being comedically evil. Except they don't play with the concept of his evil actions or his perceptions thereof, so it's just this goofy asshole blasting about the countryside and doing WWE ringside entrances to all the NPCs around him. Literally nothing of note that the MC can't handle, or is rattled by, or is unable to figure out, happens. It's just an excuse to have copl character do cool thing. Normally I am quite jovial about such frivolity, but combine immunity to consequences and poor moral choices and you get a character that's easy to hate, but not for any fun or good reason.

Most of the picks in this thread are just recent popular picks even if the show is actually decent but Overlord in particular sticks out to me because of how much it's still being pushed to this day with very little criticism of how bad it actually is.
