>>282870349First time I'm hearing about this
>>282870349FOMO. You discover a new hobby. You hear veterans talking and want to be a part of the conversation, to understand the memes, to get angry at controversies. That is, you're here for the social aspect. But to properly engage with the social aspect you need to do boring chores like actually engage with the hobby, so you speedread, or watch at 2x speed, or rush the game with a guide on easy mode.
>>282870349>What happened?Vines, TikTok and the whole short videos trend that has people acting like cartoon clowns. Where were you the last 10 years? I've had kids scrolling "their" phones next to me in restaurants fucking vibrating and chanting the lyrics to songs that consist of 4 words repeated and i'm not exaggerating.

Some anime have worse pacing than soap operas but you shouldn't watch those anyway.
>>282869505I can easily watch at 2x-4x speed depending on how slow the pacing isalso skip all OP and ED
>>282869505>I've been comfortable with watching most shows at 1.5x speed without missing out on dialogue and details,I'll only speed it up if I'm looking for a particular scene. I don't get payed to watch anime and I don't learn anything from it so if it's not worth watching at intended then it's probably not worth watching. If I just want to pretend to watch something I can read a recap of an episode and that'll take me 3 minutes or so at worst. speedwatching anime i though because I don't have that good of a handle on the ajpanese language and reading subs while taking in the scenes takes a little extra brainpower. I do like to speed up lecutures and talking heads television and video essays. People simply talk much slower than they think, especially when experts are choosing their words carefully they'll talk a bunch slower and depending on whether they're expressing ideas that are novel to me or no I'll want them to speed through their argumeht or subtopic.

>>282869505Watch more anime. When you know all the tropes it doesn't matter if you miss a bit of dialogue here or there. You'll still have a general idea what's going on and they'll probably repeat that part later on anyway
>>282869505>Seasonal animeGenerally, 0x speed.
>>282870349I don't do this for anime. Well, let's say I practically never do it. BeheNeko was so bad but I was already 9 episodes in so I just watched the last three at 1.2x speed. This is something I end up doing a lot when watching modern western shows. I don't know why but it always feels like people are talking so FUCKING SLOW in shows nowadays. 1.2x is also the sweet spot where the sound isn't distorted enough to notice.
>>282869505Bait thread but I watch at normal speed and just skip boring parts if its a mediocre anime. In general it almost feels like a cheat code, watching old battle harem anime and just skipping everything that's not fanservice or a fight is a guilty pleasure.
I skip 5 seconds at a time so I can finish them in about 1.5 minutes and cross them off my MAL list.

When I rewatching old animes from early 2000 eraMostly I drop titles after first episode.

0.9x. I really like to savour every detail, study every frame of animation, linger on every pause. I have an IQ of 190, before you ask.
I just drop the anime if I'm not feeling like watching it normally, however this is the first season where I watched most of the first episodes while doing something else because there was almost NOTHING interesting happening.

>>282869505 I only speed through openings and endings.
>this evident bait thread is still upWhy?
People who watch everything or even a sizeable chunk of things sped up are subhuman retards.People who can't comprehend why a rational person might sometimes watch some specific things sped up are also retarded. I simply don't like dropping things, sunk costs do matter. If I get into a garbage series I will likely finish it and if it's really insufferable and without artistic merit I will do that at 1.5x. Doing that once in awhile doesn't make a person brain rotted or whatever pop psychology defect people want to assign to it, it's just standard completion autism.
>>282869505The real mindless stuff I didn't drop early, I'll probably watch at 1.33 speed, maybe skipping ahead too.
>>282870349The average human can keep up with 2x speed speech just fine so why not save a lot of time? The only reason it wasn't happening in the past is that we didn't have the technology to fix the voices getting fucked at higher speeds. It's not so good for visual content tho so I rarely watch anime sped up and when I do it's for really slow paced anime or anime that I'm over half way through and want to see how it ends
>>282887561Media is made a specific way and this includes its speed. In terms of anime (or movies), speeding the video up ruins the deliberate pacing and cinematography. Speeding up music ruins how it's meant to come across as well. Absorbing the content like you would information isn't the point of entertainment media. There are other things that go into them.
>>282887867A lot of anime has shit pacing to make it fit into twelve 20 minute episodes, just look at One Piece for a good example of horrible pacingI also said it's not that good for visual content like anime, I generally spam 1 and 5 second skips instead
>>282888035One Piece has the opposite problem from what you're describing where the pacing is too slow. Trying to cram things into 12 episodes often results in pacing that's too fast, in which case speeding it up would make it even worse. And I don't trust /a/'s opinion on pacing because I can't count the number of times I've seen people criticize an anime as too slow when I feel like it has light speed pacing specifically because of the episode thing you're talking about. A lot of anime would benefit from slowing the pacing down.
>>282869693Imagine that, a 20 minute episode cut down to 5 minutes. It is genuinely amazing
>>282888113>Trying to cram things into 12 episodesThat's only if the ending point they decide on is far enough in the story. Many anime often end up needing to fill up time to actually hit 12 episodes
>>282869505Just start watching at 2x speed. You have already practiced 1.5x, to improve, you have to push yourself.
>>282887561I suppose it depends on why you're watching it.I like iyashikei shows, they're really the only form of media I've found that can really force me to just take a break. Long moments of almost nothing happening is fairly pleasant, and also the entire point of the genre.I could see how the shows I find boring could benefit from being sped up, so I finally "get to the good part," generally I think if I find something boring that means I don't actually it. Speeding something up to make it palatable is just spicing up rotten meat, it's best not to eat it at all.
>>282876168>watching at 1.5x speed is worse than skipping 5s at a time when you're boredyou think you're better than them?
>>2828695051.00 speed most of the time and 0.25x if I want a screenshot that goes by fast.
>>282870349It's not. This thread is one more small attempt to normalize it. Your post is also shilling it, by using the extremely common "Why is <uncommon thing> so common now???" question format. All the replies to you are also shills. The reason for this is the need for constant exponential growth under capitalism. The market for shitty youtube / Netflix/ anime / whatever content has been saturated ten times over, so people like you can get jobs shilling 1.1x speed in the hopes that it makes people watch 1.1x more stuff.Note that I've used 1.1x speed as an example because even mentioning a higher speed will begin to normalize that speed in peoples' brains.
>>282890751>moralgrandstanding because he uses 1.1x instead of 1.5xabsolute hypocrite
ninbros...
learned from tgis thread there are people who just spam skip ahead. that's honestly more degenerate than watching at 2x, at least they experience the information, albeit at an unintended pace, while you people just lose information entirely.
>>282870349I got a bit depressed when I clicked onto an 8 minute video and at the end the guy asked if this "long form video" format was ok with the viewers.
>>282891456haha why would he ask that, what a weird question
>>282870349because>most youtubers/streamers speak way too fucking slowly>the pacing of most modern media is really fucking bad because its designed for literal retards. I cnat stand watching normal TV or movies anymore because it takes them 3 hours to tell 15 minutes worth of story.
>>282887867for music, particularly soundtracks, i won't take anyone's opinion on pace. maybe a track hits right at its recorded pace with the video, but without video i will decide how it sounds best.say if i use it as a bgm when playing vidya, i'll compress the dynamic range and adjust the beats to how fast my mind is going.adjusting the mind with sounds is a thing in psychotherapy.
>>2828695051.7x, regularly skip ahead to step over cringe dialogue, but >>282884546 seems correct (aside from normal speed)

>>282870349OverallBlame slop content on the internet and those people expecting viewers to take such content seriously.
>>282869636Let's say an anime is 12 to 24 episodes. Watching fucking one piece isn't a good idea anyway so we'll go with 12+24/2 = 18 episodes. Keep in mind you're not forced to watch anime you dislikes until the end. So 1000 anime is 18 000 episodes. If you watches 4 episodes a day which is not even equivalent to one arc of re:zero it will takes 4 500 days of watching which is 12 years. If you're watching anime for less than 10 years you shouldn't be on /a/ and keep in mind 4 episodes a day is a small amount of annie may.
