Berserk is the only manga to ever reach the level of true art and transcend the trappings of mere manga
Why hasn't any other manga ever been able to reach its heights? Is it because the average manga reader is too stupid and sheltered for its harsh world? Personally I think it's because every manga is inspired by other media while Berserk took cues from reality

Seriously, what the hell is it with Berserkfags? They read babies first dark fantasy and make the most insane, obnoxious posts

It is the BEST manga in terms of the story it tells, but there are a few others on the same level like Punpun or Vagabond
>>
Actually the best manga is Kill Me Baby

i just finished conviction arc (griffith is back)
it's good and lost children is my favourite but it feels like a shonen with rape and gore
still really like it but its reputation precedes it

>literal cuckshit

It's probably the best manga overall, but I wouldn't say that it is the only one that can be considered true art.

it utilizes its 70s influences very well + good art + a love triangle so good it propels the plot for 300 chapters

Americans who have never read manga before vastly overrate
Japan and any non-American country rate it accurately as decent but nothing special

>transcend the trappings of mere manga
This doesn't actually mean anything. Tell me, how melanated is your skin?
>>
>>282878844
It's was inspired by other media just as much as everything else, it's just 70s and 80s media your zoomer brain does not recognize.
>>
>>282880095
It transcends the medium, like how NGE transcended anime or how Stalker transcended film
>>
>>282880779
No, a piece of media cannot transcend media. You don't know what the word means, you just use it because you think it's cool.
>>
Berserk fucking dragged for ages.
The author lost the plot long before his death desu.
>>
I just wish they'd finish it bros
>>
>>282880868
Literally everything in the manga has built towards the narrative. There's essentially no filler in the manga. It all builds characters, lore and the universe
>>
>>282878844
read more fucking manga, tourist

transcend is when something is really cool

If you don’t think this is True Art then idk what the fuck to tell you man
>>
>>282878844
How exactly did it transcend anything more than any other popular manga did?
It was a decent read but it was still just a manga
>>
The story is 4/10
The art is 11/10

People who say that Berserk is goonfuel for teenage edgelords who have never read real literature are correct, but Berserk is still the most consistently well drawn Manga of all time.

Griffith is the only interesting character in Berserk and Miura knew it, which is why he could never finish the story. Griffith simultaneously does "win" because Miura died, but everyone will feel cheated if he doesn't get defeated. If Miura had lived another 30 years, Berserk would still have dragged on at the same pace. Miura didn't want to finish it because the fans would have hated the ending it deserved.

vagabond, OPM, i do like sun ken rock too but i dont think its in the same league... same with Otoyomegatari and Gantz

but yeah you might be right.

story is pretty good tho def >6

>>282881401
I like where it ended for Miura's writing. I think he didn't continue both because an ending where they all kill Griffith feels cheap and because a Griffith redemption ending would have been incredibly insulting. That certainly wouldn't have been the ending Berserk "deserved".

brain dead people in this thread. As usual when we talk about one of the greatest manga of all time.

Griffith is interesting because of his self deception and the constant push and pull of sacrificing parts of his identity to reach an abstract ideal.
>>
>>282881686
>Griffith redemption
>Griffith defeated like a 2d villain
Yeah there is no easy and satisfying way to end the story.
>>
>>282884112
Griffith is working against the Idea of Evil but for selfish reasons. He’ll destroy it and himself and deliver humanity into an era of peace but it’ll be only for himself and his own satisfaction and the people will hate him for it.
That’s how it’ll end, bittersweet.
