what the fuck why did she kill herself? she got her revenge got some status and money back but it was not enough for her?
why all the talk about him becoming a puppet at the end , why couldnt he cut off the blind guys head or was entirely opposed to it?
>>
she killed herself because she lives by traditional samurai morality and fujiki violated his honor and won by distracting irako by throwing the sword at iku. so even if he won, she couldn't comfortably give herself to him

>why couldnt he cut off the blind guys head or was entirely opposed to it?
what does that mean?
>>
>>282934441
That sounds wrong, everyone accepted it as normal and even gave him a good position. Also it was never mentioned that she cared about this stuff only for revenge.
After he killed the blind guy he was ordered to cut his head off and present to the lords but the narration tells us that the dead blind guys cadaver was "pride" for the MC and refused but still beheaded the guy thus losing "something"(like his freedom or something)
>>
she killed herself because she opposes traditional samurai morality and fujiki upheld that by following the order to desecrate his best friend's dead body
>>
>>282934378
>what the fuck why did she kill herself?
50% because his boyfriend was a souless robot
50% she still loved irako
>why couldnt he cut off the blind guys head or was entirely opposed to it?
he was one armed
>>
>>282934603
Her loving Irako is wrong I think, she clearly hates him and wants his death.
And I dont understand how he was a soulles robot.
>one armed
clearly not the issue, for some personal reason it was bad for him to cut his opponents head off and he vomited because of it
>>
>>282934598
>desecrate his best friend's dead body
how were they best friends?
>>
>>282934598
The only correct post in this thread.

How can anyone even misunderstand that chain of events?

what? are you okay bro?

Fujiki and Irako had a twisted sense of respect towards each other, several characters in the series operate similarly actually

i still can't call them best friends, more like rivals
jujutsu kaisen did the same duo as best friends
i feel like geto was very influenced by irako and geto's curse called rainbow dragon is inspired by that panel where irako laments to kogan's daughter that he can no longer see rainbow (and a dragon because he's constantly likened to one)

What the fuck is this thread? Did some malfunctioning retard decide to read a manga clearly above their literacy level?
>>
>>282934817
It's obviously bait.
>>
>>282934817
You have anything intresting to add smartass?
If you understood the story so well enlighten us.
>>
>>282934742
You blistering fucking moron, Mie did kill herself after getting first hand confirmation that after everything Fujiki still was the same tool that blindly follows orders, the same guy that held her down on her father's orders despite him previously acting as the only positive figure in Kengo's school.
>>
>>282934957
There's more to it than that. Was it because she realized that she and Gennosuke had no way out? Or was it because Gennosuke went back to being the same man he was before? If it was the latter, then fuck her, I don't know what the hell she expected him to do when he was in front of the most powerful men in the country. If honor was something she despised, then she shouldn’t have cared about Gennosuke beheading that faggot, which makes it even more ridiculous that she killed herself for such an ideal.
>>
>>282934670
she loved irako because he wasnt an automaton like the 99% of the samurai.
gennosuke was a robot because he followed orders blindly (hold down the girl so irako can impregnate her, desecrate irako's body, etc)
>clearly not the issue, for some personal reason it was bad for him to cut his opponents head off and he vomited because of it
with one arm, all you can do is to use the katana as a chainsaw, so the decapitation thing becomes a chore.
also he vomited because he respected irako
>>
>>282934598
This. She was disgusted by the lack of integrity and principles and the blind following of samurai who obey their masters like dogs.
>>
>>282934670
>Her loving Irako is wrong I think, she clearly hates him and wants his death.
Oh anon.....
>>
>>282934957
I kinda suspected that but it still doesnt make sense why that drove her to suicide, it was never mentioned again and the only thing on her mind was revenge.
>>282935025
basically this, yes, she only wanted seigen dead for the past ~40 chapters , but fujiki beheading the guy on orders was too much for her
>>282935061
if this is the reason its really bad writing
what kind of respect can he have that killing is okay but beheading the cadaver isnt, also it was clearly demonstrated that he could cut wooden log without even swinging, his inability to behead was psychological
>>282935165
She clearly hated him to death, all romantic feelings were left behind many chapters behind, she herself only repeats "kill him please" alot of times for all previous chapters
>>
>>282935204
Please think deeply about that last part again.

besides your obvious ignorance of female psychology, look at all the other bitches who threw himself at Irako.
>>
>>282935382
That was many chapters ago bro, after that seigen completely destroys her life and she clearly hates him and wants him dead.
>>282935453
I admit I dont know, please explain.
>>

I'm too lazy to explain it. Have a tumblr post talking about it instead.

>>282934817
It's not the first time this has happened. Some retard a few months ago got mad a Shiguri for being "woke" OP is probably the same guy
>>
>>282934378
none of your business, worm boy
>>
>>282936212
Characterizing Shigurui as "woke" might be wrong but it implies a level of reading comprehension and engagement with the material well above that of 90% of weebs
>>
>>282936296
shigurui appeals to both sides kind of with how their injuries evolve them even if the author may have meant it wokely
>>
Does anyone know if "Suruga-jō Gozen Jiai" by Norio Nanjō, the book that Shigurui was based off of, is worth a read? The manga doesn't adapt the whole thing, so either Fujiki and Irako are the best story arc or the rest just wasn't seen as necessary.

I know that the mangaka reportedly had to take mental health breaks during publication because he said that creating such a depressing and violent story was starting to mess up his head, so maybe he just said he wasn't finishing the book at some point.
>>
>>282936296
>it implies a level of reading comprehension and engagement with the material well above that of 90% of weebs
Which is fair but goddamn was he a faggot
https://desuarchive.org/a/thread/280503615/#280503615
Also it was unfair of me talking shit about OP like that, he's nowhere near this dude
>>

that guy is clearly joking though
"thank science" lol instead of "thank god"
>>
>>282936780
>Joking
He was doing that
>I'm trans by the way
thing a lot of shitposters do where they try and shit on a subject by tying it to things posters here don't like. He's not actually engaging with the subject
>>
weird how irako could've prevented all this if he just took the crazy bitch with him
>>
>>282934378
She hates samurai and their ways, she thought Fujiki was tearing himself away from it, but when he went back on it, she lost hope.
>>
>>282937194
He could have prevented it earlier still by not fucking the boss's girl
>>
>>282936482
i believe the fujiki/irako storyline is much more bare bones in the book. someone began translating another manga based on the book and it is very different. i think i also have seen it mentioned that yamaguchi asked the author of the book if he could make shigurui and use the story to explore other themes. i think in the book it is a way more basic revenge story, and mei is in love with irako ,who is boning her, from the start,
>>
>>282934603
>50% she still loved irako
No, she didnt loved him in this canon. In the Novel? Yes, The other manga adaptation? Yes; However she does not love him in shigurui at this point
>>
>>282934378
Feudal Japan
>>
>>282938779
yeah that checks out, the mangaka was way too good to be just adapting someone else's story
>>
Gennosuke why do you never stop being a spineless dumbass? Why can't you be more like your older brother Kakugo?
>>
Still no clue what the seashell symbolism was about.
>>
>>282934378
While speculative, I don't think it's unwarranted to suppose she was still in love with Irako in some way and felt that he was being unjustly humiliated. But the scary the scary thing is about Shigurui is that Mie's motivations are never revealed.

Was it love for Seigen who at one point had saved her?
Was it hate for Fujiki who had betrayed her?
Was it piety towards her father after witnessing the mockery made to the Kogan style?
Was it simply because at that point her vengeance was complete?

It's probably a complex mix of all of the above, plus a couple of other reasons maybe. The only thing we know for certain is that Mie was reborn as a monster, the story outright says it but never explains what it means by that. So what we know is that Mie's motivation, whatever it may be, is something dark and violent. "The man that kills himself kills the entire world".
>>
>>282934378
She didn't anon, it was a hallucination. I have it on good authority and from a very trustable source. Now go be at peace with yourself.
>>
>>282934797
>>282934746
It went beyond just rivalry and hate, Fujiki at the very end found out he was literally in love with Irako. Yes, Shigurui deal with homosexuality pretty much splashed all over it's art.
It's honestly high art; Shigurui's themes and subtext are phenomenal; few works reach it's quality.
>>
>>282940982
>Fujiki at the very end found out he was literally in love with Irako.
how's that? you can't be pulling this from just his vomit
>>
>>282941041
Look at the paneling following Fujiki eyes and memories and how they focus Irako's lips, delicacy and beauty. Notice how he shut down Irako's friendship at his worst moments of fragility with the same zeal of a man denying his homosexual urges/feelings. It's not central to it all, but a part of the million feelings crossing his mind in that very last scene. It's WONDERFUL. Really fucking beautiful work.
And this isn't pulling shit out of anyone's ass, all of the art, the covers, everything is queer as hell. It's yet another layer to the themes of the manga.
>>
>>282939857
the part where he killed the bully in his childhood

Ge was supposed to cut down Tadanaga right then and there instead of beheading Seigen, just like he'd killed the bully samurai. That was what God had designed him to do. He failed God. He failed Justice.
>>
>>282941101
Hell, even more blatant is the whole realization of it all in a scene with penetrative iconography. He is finally inside of him, it's all so fucking raw and sexual. It's erotic, brutal. It's a fucking masterpiece.
>>
>>282941101
you seem kinda far too gone mate, i apologize if it's my bad
>>
all yamaguchi manga are so incredibly gay
like holy fucking shit
>>
>>282934378
Because Irako is a self-intrest and universe and the plot must bend itself backwards to him even after he is dead.

One of few reasons why shigi is shit and forgotten.
>>
I thought it was purely because genosuke became a federal government dog in tje end and she realized how hollow and pointless the revenge was

I don't think it was love, but the author was clearly trying to draw parallels between Irako and Fujiki's relationship and a sexual one. It's not a coincidence that the author chooses to express their final clash as a naked embrace. Or that Fujiki had a nosebleed when crossing paths with him earlier.
>>
people not realizing how fucking gay (and this is a good thing!) Shigurui is reminds me how depressing are the studies of the decline of population literacy all over the world
>>
>>282934378
Frankly, Mie would have been happier if Fujiki had died and Irako made her a part of his harem.
>>
>>282939857
There's actually a do-over, surprisingly. The manga 'Tales of the Seven Ronin' by the same mangaka has Gennosuke be a good guy and make the right choices this time.
Also, he's Kamen Rider.
>>
>>282942993
>people not realizing how fucking gay (and this is a good thing!) Shigurui is
that the funniest part how the manime dudes keep including it into their lists completely oblivious to what it is
>>
>>282934378
>why couldnt he cut off the blind guys head or was entirely opposed to it?
He didn't want to desecrate Seigen's body like that but couldn't stop himself from mechanically following orders.
He was weak as a babe because his body was moving on autopilot.
>>
>>282935478
Seigen killing Kogan was the best thing anyone had ever done for Mie.
>>282936482
There's a Japanese->Spanish->English translation out there.
Its not really that impressive. The conflict gets far less focus and the characters are much less interesting and dynamic.
This is potentially a translation issue, but also the conflict is just thought of as a much smaller one in the novel than the manga. One step in a novel about a larger story, where the tournament becomes the main focus.
