The dungeon is fine. It has an aesthetic that is attractive if you like Dark Souls. Honestly, it doesn't really have a strong emotional pull. Every character feels like it was written by an autist that can write the shape of people, but not really make them feel human.

Tower Dungeon is great and feels like a return to form for Nihei after the period of drought that was everything after Sidonia. The art might be different from what you are used to but it is in way inferior. His fundamentals are strong as ever and his sense of composition and contrast are one of the best in the industry. And the story and characters finally feel engaging and like actual people.

If you look back at his earlier manga he's gotten better at it but I mean there wasn't anything like that really in Blame, he was the dark drawings guy. His character interaction, speech and the pace of these things feels odd and stilted. I enjoy his manga, Tower Dungeon included, rather than love them. There's plenty in here that's enjoyable as long as you accept the characterization and interaction and writing style.

>>282941659There are some interviews with him where he talks about his thought process when making Blame! vs the manga he makes now. At the time when he made Blame! he was doing manga more as a means of self expression, but that as he progressed he realized that if this was going to be his job his stuff needed to have broader appeal. So he's adjusted his style and his writing in the hopes of being more marketable and to sell better.
I really like the direction his art has taken in TD. The flatness and clean lines started in Sidonia have become very balanced with additional detail and fluidity, his strokes look deft and expressive.

Any worse and it would be unfinished draft-tier. Almost like Houseki no Kuni's manga art but less emphasis on clearly defined, graphic shapes. Not really a good sell for the manga.
