These aren't optimistic characters. These are sad sacks and chumps. "Optimistic" characters should be grander. They should be inspiring. They should be helpful. Outgoing. Confident. People who genuinely want to make things better and believe it. Too many anime want to make their heroes humble but never balance it with self respect or confidence.
