Is there a character where you see a dissonance between them and their fanbase? I feel like most of Nagito's fans would be extremely annoyed by the guy IRL.
There's a difference between liking them as a character and liking them as a person. You can love the character but dislike them as a person. Just look at how many people who say they like Light Yagami. He's without a doubt one of the best characters in Death Note, it's easy to see why, but nobody would actually want to be around him or have him exist anywhere near them. He exists solely in a bubble for people to like in safety. A better example would be Lalo from Better Call Saul actually, but you get the point.
