It's always like this in both manga/anime, drugs are never mentioned until the "drug arc" where there's some capitalistic overly evil antagonist who introduced someone in the gang to some superdrug™. Queue them getting hooked and spiralling, MC fighting crazy drug-powered henchmen, and everything ending with the druggies being dead/beaten/repentent, the friend getting off the superdrug, and substances never mentioned in the series again ever.Anyone who moves about in the night will see that drugs are an essential part of clubbing and partying these days, and that 9/10 users are just regular jackoffs of all ages who do it moderately from time to time.But maybe I'm too European to understand. The American opioid crisis seems absolutely horrible and that stuff really is close to as addictive as the "superdrugs". I have friends that have (accidentally) tried meth and I would never take that risk after hearing how amazing it made them feel
