Why did it take 20 years for One Piece to finally eclipse DBZ, Naruto, Bleach in western pop culture?

I remember winning some Bleach Merch in an anime con 20 years ago and as i didnt watched tried to gave away to my group of weeb friends, none of them had watched it, the poster/pins ended up hidden somewhere in a closet for years

>>282979746It's opposite for me, Bleach was extremely popular in my area growing up and tons of kids talked about it. A And that includes while the fullbring anime arc was airing. I was still able to easily find people who liked and watch it. 2025? Not even close.

>>282979537Anglo teenagers don't like things that look childish or goofy so US/Canadian/British/Australian/NewZealander teenagers preferred Naruto which had slightly less goofy art, or Bleach which had cool more serious looking art and was more edgy. They were called the Big Three but One Piece seemed too goofy for insecure teenagers to like at the time. This is also why Dragonball Z got popular but only weirdos like me liked its first half, which was childish, creepy, weird etc and not cool enough because no awesome super saiyans.
