Is there a litmus test for this? How do you tell if someone actually enjoys anime, or if they just watch whatever’s trendy and repeat Reddit-tier opinions? For me, it’s when someone rates Cyberpunk: Edgerunners high and trashes SAO because it’s “not deep” or “less edgy.” That’s how I can tell they don’t actually like anime, they just like pretending they have taste. What’s your own filter, /a/? How do you tell when someone’s opinions aren’t even theirs?
who fucking cares man get a grip
why are you so obsessed with others? live your own life my dude
>>282996395>>282996421You're right. I'm sorry.
anyone who says they like anime isn't a real anime fan
>>282996353You're a pseudo-elitist if you care what others think about niptoons
>>282996603>if you care what others think about niptoonsnta but why are you here then
>>282996603go back, burger media enthusiast
>>282996353Holy newfag. Go back to whatever shithole you crawled out of.
>>282996879spoken like a true newfag. kill yourself immediately
>>282996395>noo it's only fine when *I* post my opinions but not when you do
>>282996353did someone call your favorite anime shit?
>>282997356No. It's just that anime fans are so hypocrite.
>>282996353Part of me wants to say "NPCs don't actually exist, only shit taste," but I still remember being an elementary kid peer-influenced into dissing stuff I privately enjoyed. Thank god I grew out of that. I think getting politely BTFO in an internet powerlevel argument opened my eyes to how someone could be an unashamed fan of whatever they wanted. In a word: based. So I don't know if there's a sure way to tell when someone's just trying to fit in, and guessing wrong (or even right) is probably counterproductive. But standing up for your own enjoyment without sounding mad can sometimes move the needle a bit, if any part of the show privately struck a chord with them. There've been some long-term reputational rehab success stories on /a/, including SAO, Fairy Tail, and Symphogear.I liked both Edgerunners and SAO btw.

Over time you can tellSomeone who says their favourite anime are Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Berserk and Honnemaise for example are newfags that think they've seen everythingSomeone who says their favourite anime is some random 6/10 mid 2000s show barely anyone has heard of is legit, because their taste is honed
>>282996353SAO is absolute trash
>>282996353Anyone who says>Anime stopped being good after 2007>80s anime are the peak>WTF HAPPENED??? [comparison between 90s OVA and 2010s longrunner]Can generally be written off immediately. There's a lot more, but these three general tells out the person in question as a newfag that wants to LARP as an elitist.
>>282998334you fav try hard tranime is also trash

I can only hope that they'll one day decide to do a TV series for Progressive so they can actually animate the novel plot instead of making OCDONUTSTEELS again.
>>282996563>anyone who says they like anime isn't a real anime fanthis. all real anime fans absolutely hate anime because it's total shit
>>282999979why are you here
>>283000003because I'm a real anime fan
>>282996353they make threads like this one
>>282998325most of them didn't even watch these fossilsthey will praise slop like cowboy bebop or samurai champloo or mushishi and say they don't make anime like they used to (except they do, mushishi sequel isn't even old)
>>282996353I have no reason to want to watch Cybersplooge Gluegunners so I don't know about the specifics of this particular beef, but I can tell you that anyone defending SAO or AOT or Steins;Gate are transparently just the obnoxious children who liked that shit back in the day who now have an attitude of "but it's my turn to be oldfag now!"
>>282996353SAO fags are slowly seeing the truth in that it is a science fiction story with a premise that was a bait and switch for typical rom com slop.
>>282996353Things that become trendy only become so because they somehow manage to break through the current mold and become something that is a breath of fresh air.The reason why we don't like things that are """trendy""" because they serve as a reminder that creatively, anime and manga are in a mire of carefully crafted genre centered products that came as a result of market and customer research and that we have been basically consuming nothing but that sort of thing for who knows how many decades at this point.Edgerunners became trendy because there was something VERY wrong with cyberpunk and it came out at a time where there were no action shows in anime.SAO became trendy because there was something wrong with worldbuilding and also a lack of action shows in anime.
