Tenshi was never the same for me after they abandoned the Sasami-is-Tsunami story line. That all Tenshi had to do was survive Ayaka and Ryoko's bs for six more years and then he would win a actual goddess, who could become a ship and a tree and wants to marry and have children with him.

The ending is perfect and it's a callback to the ending of Tenchi in Love, with Achika and Nobuyuki together.
