They should have condensed chapters 2-5 or 3-5 into 1-2 chapters to move onto the tiger shenguai and should have teased the other shenguai hunter that was close behind. Instead of just the one shenguai hunter they should have also had him bring Huazi along. I liked the pacing of the manga, it had a nice adventure feel with a monster of the week kinda thing going but modern audiences don't like that so better to move fast at the start and slow down later. Jun also needs to work on her action.

This is less about Kaedegami and more about what gets prioritized or not. Shonen Jump is just another Playstation now, japanese in name only, but what matters to the company is what they think the west wants to be their brand. Flat battle shonen is king, if you add any bit of "weird" spice to your recipe, you're already starting an uneven race. So I hope Harukawa doesn't even come back, she has no shot in the current Magazine -- maybe the series was doing that bad, but there's no point in publishing for Jump anymore with the kind of story, art and characters she likes. She would fit Kodansha better, hopefully she doesn't waste years of career with an Editor in Chief that was never willing to give her a shot to begin with.As for this westernized Jump, I see no point in keeping up with it, just like I don't care about DC's editorial decisions. So maybe I'll just show up to vote every week for the series I already read, but I'm not interested in keeping up with whatever Saito is doing now. lol

I liked Kou as a protagonist and Jun can design very attractive men but it seems like she's biased towards stories that prominently feature female characters in it's cast (Chiyou, Huazie, Taotie, Nuba). I hate to say it but maybe that was not to the manga's favor given the magazine it runs in. Male readers may prefer a more even gender split unless the story has harem elements or a lot of fan service and the female readers of Jump often do so for the hot guys and don't really care about female characters much. I liked what Jun was doing with Huazi and Taotie, their history together was interesting and bittersweet but what was most notable about how it ended was revealing that Jun didn't seem to have any plans for teasing Huazi and Kou as a pairing because Huazi's feelings towards Taotie come across as (plausibly) romantic infatuation. So perhaps Jun was planning on having these female characters with their own arcs running parallel to Kou's personal storylines and I have to wonder if the manga would have been more successful had Huazi been set up as a love interest to compete over Kou or if she'd been replaced with a male character. If so that's a little sad, and if so perhaps you are right about Jun's choice of magazine.

With the current line up once one piece ends Jump goes bankrupt, KGB and Sakamoto are not big enough hitters to sustain Jump unless that cygames adaptation does the art/paneling justice and than some. But as it currently stands Jump is on death door, that bottom line is so bad it's honestly just sad.
