That never happened. At best, some stuff was cut out and other stuff re-ordered. But most of the story is still the same. An actual fix of TYBW would develop and integrate Uryu's status as successor more into the story, and all of the story lines would be interwoven, where you can't have one without the other. The latter of these is arguably Bleach's biggest problem in storytelling. All too often do side-characters get fights that serve as advancements of their character arcs, but are almost if not completely irrelevant to the main story line. The prime example of this in TYBW is the Friend arc.
tldr tybw couldve been the best arc if it properly interwove story arcs with character arcs.

Man I can't believe I'm seeing this in a Bleach thread. Bleach does have genuine depth, whether you like it or not. A huge part of it is Ichigo's hero journey, which is a common literary trope and the way Kubo wrote it as a battle with the self and overcoming trauma, rather than some shounen-y cliche rival, is absolutely brilliant. Btw, he did seemingly do this with Uryu at first, but double subverted it, first when Uryu becomes a good friend of him and when he fake betrays him in TYBW.

My problem with bleach returning is that they needed a bang story and fights for it to work because the market is extremely competitive than it was years ago. You have all these other animes that feed practically every audience like fujos and ride on well animated good fight scenes with a bunch of emotion yet the last arc of Bleach is too poorly written to hit those beats.

What I think happened was the publisher saw the low sales of Demon Slayer manga with its reputation of being mid skyrocket to insane popularity due to the anime. They then decided that it’s possible to do the same with Bleach by slapping flashy animation ontop (Bleach’s TYBW was low in the popularity rankings list during release). What went wrong is that Demon Slayer is backed by very heavy emotional scenes which is a great draw for normies. TYBW is a just a fight complication, too many characters, popular ones play very little roles or importantance, and inconsistent animation; cour 1 looks different from cour 2, and cour 2 looks different from cour 3. And the story is a mess. How no one saw this coming is beyond me.
