IMO if the idea was to make Kusunoki look sympathetic and help explain/justify her current shyness, it's kinda backfiring by making her look like a doormat all along. Or, if the idea is to contrast Kusunoki being TOO self-abasing with Snek's overcorrection in the other direction, the latter still comes off more sympathetic and cathartic. (I wanted to say "human", but maybe there are people who've been through Kusunoki's victim self-blame thing and can relate.)I can't help wondering if Hebikawa would lose respect for Kusunoki if she saw this flashback, or merely get mad on her behalf. They're kids who were affected by personal trauma in the past and they're learning how to overcome it.
