Anyone ever noticed that for some reason anime characters dont talk with their actuall mouths but an opening on their cheeck?I never noticed it before but once you see it you cant really unsee itIts especially bad in this example the characres clearly have lips and a mouth that you can see on their side profile but its completly closed during the enrie conversationInstead they have a seperate pair of lips painted on the side of their cheecks which moves during the conversation
Heres what they would look like without the cheek thing and you can more clearly see their actual mouth and the contours of their lipsIts jarring to see them like that when youre used to their second cheek mouth the entire time
Does anyone have a slowpoke slow enough for this OP?

>>283098140Its just something i noticed recently ive been watching Yosuga no Sora again becase i got the blu ray recently and watching the show on the big screenI never really noticed it before and now its just weird
>>283097719This doesn't look weird to me, but it's a different expression entirely. It looks like they're puckering their lips.
>>283097663It's a cartoon so I'm not bothered by it. Cartoons are cartoons, after all.
>>283098410thats why its so weirdIt completly changes their expression and now its impossible to read their emotionsWith the side mouth you could tell that she was teasing him and he was taken a back a bit but now it completly chagedThe character on the left is completly emotionless now and dosnt convey anything
>GUYS DAE THINK [thing in almost every manga and/or anime] BAAAAAAAAAAD!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?Riveting thread.
>>283097663This is a common thing, we usually call it "side mouth". If they at least change the shape of the lips to match the mouth then I'm okay with it. but if the mouth is moving and the lips aren't then it bothers me a lot and is poor art imo.
>>283098429>>283098993Good arguments. On second thought I fucking LOVE bad animation.
>>283099101Kill yourself, retard
>>283098963>The character on the left is completly emotionless now and dosnt convey anythingthat's because your edit doesn't actually open their mouths
>>283099063>we usually call it "side mouth"I've heard it called "flounder mouth"
>>283097663Woah you can also see the eyebrows through the hair that's covering them even though they shouldn't be visible. What's going on?????
>>283097663Yet another autistic retard that's never seen a person in profile talk. That's not an opening in their cheek. The thin patch of skin between the mouth and the lip is a stylization of the other side of the lip. It's not always implemented well and some other examples, usually very simplified styles, are more egregious about it, but like with nearly everything else you see in anime that looks "super weird guise!!1," it has a purpose.
>>283100160>Yet another autistic retardAnon remember wher you are here We are all autistic to some degree
>>283099101It's not "bad animation." It's "cost efficient animation." By moving the mouth without showing what's on the other side of it, lots of effort and time can be saved. Anime got huge in the west because that saved effort used to put applied in other places, like plot or animation fidelity.
It's a reference to Pablo Picasso. You have to have a very high IQ to appreciate Japanese art.
How it feels to watch your fifth anime: the post
>>283100117lmao best post on 4chan right now. Yes, I know this isn't original.
It's because they havent got proper noses, this is why older anime looks better and anything that stands out now is because they have proper noses in their art style. Go back and look at Misato, the Major, Faye Valentine, even Revy here has a far better defined nose.
>>283101732explain yourself anon
>>283101732eva had plenty of sidemouth
>>283100225Cutting corners is always defended as "efficient". Sure but it also sucks
for me it depends on if they draw the profile to fit with the mouth. e.g. >>283104131 is fine because the cheek is just flat/curved, doesn't have the profile of the lips on it. if you can see the mouth moving and also the shape of the lips then it looks like shit because the lips are supposed to be the fucking mouth. here's the most famous example people bring up, but I've seen many as bad or worse. I think people just noticed this one more because it was kyoani and usually they're above that.
>>283097663Woah, wait till you find out the background repeats in the Flintstones
>>283104302it does have the lips in profile though
>>283097663The lockdown is long over, tourist. You don't have to watch anime anymore.
Side mouth schizo thread
>>283097663I wish this didn't trigger me so muchtakes me out of the scene every timeI hate it
>>283097663But this is how faces actually look from a 3/4 perspective Picrel, outline his face and mouth hole and it’s a match
>>283106483Is this a 3/4 thread or a profile thread you retarded nigger
>>283097663Did OP notice anime character eyes are gigantic, like 3 centimeters big and would take most of the room inside?Did OP notice anime hairs are so damn thick it's like the character have heads twice as big as ours?A little late to discover that suspension of disbelief allow mankind to accept a wide range of simile as a face.
>>283101732>>283103981>>283104302Probably referring to this trend
