Been a while since we had one.
Let's discuss manga that can't sustain their own threads. Any interesting ones you picked up and want to talk about?

Started to read isekai slop because didn't find anything interesting, Isekai Demo Bunan ni Ikitai Shoukougu is surprisingly good
>>
The few things I read for the first time recently were
>Fool Night
Needs no introduction probably, great manga and some of the best art in recent years.
>Usuzumi no Hate
Comfy post-apocalypse is like, my favorite genre, and while this one is less comfy than some it's still pretty nice and the art is good. The naruto reject kid really needs to go, though.
>Taiyou to Tsuki no Hagane
What is it about samurai failures that makes them so compelling? Nice classic supernatural samurai action manga. It's no Sengoku Youko but has some of the same vibes. Also a huge departure from Kasane, the previous well known series by the same mangaka, that I was personally never able to get into.
>Bug Ego
I'm not ONE glazer, but this might be my favorite out of everything he wrote. The humor sometimes goes too far and detracts from the spookiness but it's still solid.

Other than those I've been mostly catching up on some ongoing series that I haven't read in while, mostly with disappointing results.

Glad it's getting official translations. I need to catch up one day. I stopped right around the introduction of the Central bad guys, I believe. One of the best currently running sci-fis imo. Morally grey which a plus in my book
>Taiyou to Tsuki no Hagane
Just read the concept and it's look interesting. Is it a chanbara?

It sucks you can't search for manga based on chapter page count. 50 pages is the best but it's rare, even for monthly releases.

Been reading Wandance since the anime has terrible animation. It's just going to keep butchering the next couple of chapters. The art is absolutely amazing.
>Killer Shark in Another World
Love watching our protagonist get bullied and survive every situation.
>the gods lie.
5 chapter and a good read short read. It ends bittersweet and glad both characters are in better situations.

Enjoying Genikasuri. It's the latest manga of Sako Toshio, the author of Usogui and Batuque.

It's a drama featuring boxing. It's about a boxer waking up from a coma, having lost everything. He realizes he was taken advantage of the promoters and coaches of the boxing world and vows to take revenge, by acting behind the scenes.

The protagonist Harima is like a mix between Baku from Usogui and Icchi from Batuque in design and personality.

Someone recommended Boku to Issho a while ago and since then I've been reading all of his other stories - I liked Wanitokagegisu and Himeanole, but it seems like translations for the latter have been dropped. In a similar vein - any good recommendations for autobiographical works? I enjoy reading artists talking about themselves or their hobbies.

At the moment the best things I am read which have regular scans are Nine Peaks (time travelling delinquent manga), Mr Zetton (delinquent manga about a delinquent who is now a teacher) and Jumbo Max (murder mystery about pharmacist who makes ED pills), also all on-going. It's not had scans for a while now but Rappa: The Delinquent Ninja Scrolls (delinquent battle shonen involving ninjas) is also really good.

Literally every chapter of Lock Up has been absolutely fucking incredible so far. For another wrestling themed manga that is just as good (but perhaps not in such an emotional heart wrenching way) I'd recommend Harukanaru Ring, was done in English a few months ago and also a short read (4 volumes). There's also Blue Ursus but it's written by Sandrovich so at some point it is going to become shit, great art so far though.

It baffles me how unpopular Dokagui Daisuki Mochizuki-san is here on the west.
This manga outsells over half of currently running WSJ manga by individual volume sales, yet nobody on the internet seems to care about its existence.
I guess Rohan is right, American have no taste in manga.

Japanese media in general pays too much attention to food and gourmet shit. Art has become so trite and vulgar that maybe there isn't any other content worth creating. It doesn't even make for a good read or a proper vicarious experience.
What's worse is that it's gotten to the point that writers will devote full pages to some faggot enjoying some regular omurice while saying umaii. It will even hijack plot lines in manga or stop some action because the director thought filming some OL stuff their face for 2 minutes would look good and 'relatable'.
I don't think reading about recipes, ingredients or calories adds anything to manga as an art form.
That's just your dumb consumer brain consooming whatever the fuck. Point in case, you just posted a spread about some fatty rushing home to eat white rice.
>>
>>283126484
>>Japanese media in general pays too much attention to food and gourmet shit.
LOL I was reading some ecchi slop the other day and like 5-6 pages of several chapters were literally spent on cooking and recipe preparations
>>

Considering how popular Shin-chan's dad's anime is right now in Japan, I guess it's just a matter of cultural difference.
>>
>>283126578
I watched Shin-chan as a kid but I don't think I'd go out of my way to watch a show about his dad cooking rice with boiled weeds and conserved pears, or visit some random udon shop (I'm exaggerating, Nip food is mostly top tier but lots of stuff just have a plain flavor or are barely edible).
>cultural difference
They've been making doramas with the same awful production standards for the past 20 years and that shit is still popular.
Imagine if some Western TV network tried to put out something with the look and feel of 00s' Everwood or early Supernatural. Not that the West isn't trite or full of mass-produced crap, but iit's like the Japanese are stuck consuming the same stuff over and over.

i read most of it, dropped it due to censorship
i was hoping it would just focus on the loli but annoying characters kept being introduced
Not worth reading

>BLOOD+
Complete shit, somehow more boring than the original blood movie. Has a cute shota character that dies way too quickly

>Ichigeki sacchu!!! Hoihoi-san
about a quarter of the way through this, its pretty entertaining. its about cute mini maid robots

>Beautiful Place
Pretty entertaining, i like the art, though i can tell its just one guy whos using blender for backgrounds, seeing girls shooting eachother is fun

>Blue heaven
Pretty entertaining but short. I like the art too. I'll check out the authors other stuff at some point

>Onee-San wa joshi shougakusei ni kyoumi ga arimasu

Been going through my nearly 18 year old backlog of series that weren't completed yet. I do have on question. There are several mangas I remember reading, but their name's I've forgotten, and my memory doesn't allow for a description that can help me google them (doesn't help that Google gets progressively worse over time). They are:
>a witch cursed with immortality. One arc was in a dark town with canals.
>a more recent one, a manga based in modern times where gods appear. Looking at a god kills you. Protagonist is a woman I believe who saw one and has a cursed eye of sorts.
>one with flying ships going between flying islands. There was a massive towerlike town. Obviously not Drifting Dragons.
>>
I'm considering finally reading Jojolion. Do I want to download the Hi wa Mata Noboru scans?

After finishing Kaiji 1-6, I’m reading Kurosawa. I flip flop between hating Kurosawa for being a self centered insecure piece of shit and feeling sorry for him. Same with how I felt about Kaiji but on a whole another level. At chapter 18 now
>>
>>283122428
Honestly it's incredible, the synopsis on MU is quite something.
>Tateo Sone runs a pharmacy in Odawara and leads an ordinary but happy life with his beautiful wife and stepdaughter. One day, however, when his wife tells him she is pregnant, he is shocked. It's because he has a secret: he has never had a functioning lower half of his body. His wife's child is not his own. Tateo despairs at the thought. At that time, a man named Sumaoka happens to give him a mysterious ED drug. Tateo impulsively takes the drug and is shocked to find that the function of his lower body miraculously recovers. Tateo declares to Sumaoka that he will recreate and make this medicine himself. But this is the beginning of a dangerous day that will change his life forever!

He knows nothing about martial arts, fight choreography is extremely fucking lazy and that's not talking about how he physically cannot write stakes into any story. The majority of the hate towards the sequel comes from its existance instead of anything wrong in its content. It's a more comedic story with the same hitting life lessons. Along with a serious arc taking the latter half.

I really liked this for its subgenre. Nice, self-contained and a good story arc. Good example of execution > concept. Although it definitely speaks to the

I haven't really been reading much manga since both mangadex purge and comick.io died. I had all my bookmarks there like a retard.

Trying Suwayomi now with mangaupdates as list, but I barely understand how it works, and having to search individually in each separate web for the mangos I was reading is a dick in my pain, specially because a lot of the time they simply don't exist anywhere else.

Reading Fire Hot Aunt right now as it has ended. It has two lolis but they are never sexualized like the other girls.

I read all of Ayashimon in one evening, without knowing that it was axed. A little disappointing since I liked the concept of Yokai Yakuza, but the MC definitively didn't carry the story.
I'm also into Sengoku/Edo period samurai stories at the moment, I recently finished Reiri, Takeda Shingen and Yume Maboroshi no Gotoku.

I don't know how the Mangaupdates sync works, but I use Tachiyomi (RIP) and sync character progress to an Anilist account I created just to track manga.
Before that I'd use MAL but they shut off all API calls from Tachiyomi. It probably works on Mihon or the newer forks.

I don't know what you're doing, but just add some title to your Suyayomi library and pick some source (i.e., manga site). If that source drops dead you can "migrate" to some other source in the client. Usually you can preserve progress seamlessly. It's a pain in the ass if you preemtively download shit for offline reading, but whatever.

I learned of mado’s manga works after stumbling on his hentai.
Always liked his illustrations. Oddly enough I find his visuals to be in a weird spot between simple and complex. Kind of sets his works apart and gives him his own style.

Anybody else seen manga where the visuals are in this weird middle ground of simple but not bad but not really good either?

>There wasn't anywhere else it could have gone that wouldn't have contradicted the whole story's point.
I get what you mean but I disagree. For me this was more of an exploration of "stories" as a concept, and there is always more exploration that can be done. As it stands king and the MC being "monsters" feel incredibly tacked on to make a point or to just sell the stories to girls.
Continuing would break some of the full circleness of the story but in exchange it would also let it expand. Not to mention it could have gone the way of actual fairy tales and tell totally different stories with the same characters while fleshing everything more imho.

It just has to mean an ending that makes me feel like I didn't waste my time reading the manga and made the experience worth my while, unlike a lot of recent big name manga that shit the bed at the finish line and left an absolutely sour taste in the mouths of fans who have been loyally reading for years.

Yes, I did use a Mangadex and Comick thingy to get a file with my follows. But I don't know how to slap it to Sowayomi automagically. And going one by one would take me hours as I had more than thousand follows.

It makes me search the title of manga in a source site first, which then links to mangaupdates. So I need a site that has all my follows. Also read previous reply. Don't know how to automate it.

Some time after the fukushina nuclear plant disaster the mangaka wrote a chapter of oishinbo where the main characters visited the area near the incident and started having nosebleeds, pretty much telling his huge audience that those symptoms were caused by the radiation even when the goverment claimed those areas near the plant were safe.

This caused a conmotion and shortly after in 2014 the magazine announced that oishinbo will enter an hiatus.

The thing is that the mangaka experieced personally those symptoms of nosebleeding after visiting one of those towns near the Fukushima plant. He probably felt scared of the dangers of what he believed was radiation and wanted to warn other people, even when the japanese goverment had declared those areas safe places.

I just finished my second read through of Usogui, I basically read it back to back because I found myself not understanding a lot the first time but by the end feeling so in love and enticed with what I was reading that I just needed to go through it again from the start to truly appreciate the final few arcs.
Was even better the second time, and I ordered volumes 1-31 which just arrived today. Would love to hear some of your favorite moments. For me even though Air Poker and STL is peak fiction, nothing tops Tower of Karma. That’s how you do a major “war” arc that changes the status quo.

>In this manga depicting a man among men, the mangaka himself is the protagonist. This autobiographical work describes his efforts when he aimed to become a politician. After taking a break from writing, he spends his days completely infatuated with golf. During this time, MITOMIYA Hiroshi overhears the conversation of some delinquent students while walking through town, and makes a life-changing decision. That decision was to announce that he will run in the national election for the House of Councillors. However, once his neighbors find out, they do everything they can to stop him...!?

>Kid who nearly got isekai'd wakes up from a coma and learn that Japan started classifying adulthood based on good deads, through establishing a 24/7 surveillance state, and he's partly to blame for that. Now he tries to expose how the system is corrupt.
A big part of how good it is is Yutaro himself. He's a based retard. And acts like an actual adult despite being 15 mentally in the body of a 30 year old. He also has moments where the immaturity comes out but they are actually endearing instead of annoying. While slowly learning about the world around him.
Also, checked!

I will keep a close eye on this, Touge Oni is an excellent manga so I look forward to seeing what the author does with a new manga.
Recently read Subaru to Suu-san which is probably one of the best romances I've read, It doesn't explore the plot device very deeply, which some might consider a flaw, but i found that no attempt being made at explaining it was better. As the story focused more on the characters and the nuances of their strange situation made it much more compelling than trying to shoehorn in some reasoning as to why it occurs. It was very sweet and the main couple are delightful, especially since it's not some generic high school romance.
