Switching to the altered world would be a departure from what he has become used to by this point, making it more risky that it seems at face value. Preferences aside, it inherently feels wrong from that lens alone and I think even a person who didn't enjoy the thrills would choose Haruhi's madness world because of that subtext of uncertainty. The only strong reason I could see for anyone choosing the new altered world would be purely for Yuki's sake.
