Do you think the reason Sailor Moon was brought to the states in 1995 was because Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was the most popular show for kids and Sailor Moon was inspired by Super Sentai (which is what MMPR was the american version of)?

Yeah, maybe...
>>283130345
What makes you think they're a zoomer from that post?
>>
>>283130275
Yea. It was the craze at the time. The series was chopped to an unrecognizable shell of itself but it was good. It was one of the series to help move anime to the masses. People tried to bring more stuff over here other than Sentai and in the 2000's they were straight up bringing over japanese television shows. Today I don't think they have to do anymore chopping since more people are born into anime these days. All they need is subtitles and marketing and they can sell, dubbing if the series is big enough.

Zoomers weren't even born at the time.
>>
>>283130275
The original proposal was to do a half live-action half animated adaptation.

I think it came over because it was popular and most popular anime were brought over to the USA ever since the 1960s

Well that was a given. I would to have loved to have been the market research manager who's job it was, was to see what was hot in Japan. Free plane rides, free hotels, free food, go spend months in Japan's hobby shops and anime studios, watching anime on your company's time.

Or you subscribe to Oricon and get all that market research delivered to you each week.

Yes, American broadcast networks needed something marketable for little girls, a female equivalent of Power Rangers so to speak, and Sailor Moon as a franchise was exploding in Japan at the time so they took the chance and got the license. But not before making to scrub it of it’s very dirty, very un-Christian and no good homo propaganda, pic related.

Not really, all it really censored was the homo content, which was a good thing.

You have to remember that they saw Japanese media as a boom to license, and they would grab whatever series they could, regardless of how much objectionable stuff was in it.

The first episode, or at least one of those first-season episodes showing Beryl's giant crowd of useless shadowy fucks that just stand in the background and contribute nothing
>>
>>283131755
There weren't a lot of anime that aired on television in the states though. Even Gundam didn't air in the states until Gundam Wing was brought over
>>
>>283130275
Exactly because of sexy transformation sequences. Because of that this show acquired attention of male teenagers alongside females. And in general this show was mostly about love and relationships, all female characters were pretty and hungry for love and affection.

>this show was mostly about love and relationships
You’re thinking of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon took the Magical Girl genre away from its inherently shoujo roots and started steering it to battle shonenfaggotry.

The starlights are missing in that image
>>

Stars never got localized by the old dub so they didn’t have a chance to censor it.

Come to think of it I wonder now how DIC/Cloverway would’ve dealt with the Starlights sex-changing if they did attempt to localize it… Probably wasn’t any good way to hide it so that’s why they didn’t even bother bringing the season over huh?

Amara and Michelle ARE cousins and nothing will change it.

The first attempt to bring it over was by Saban.
The guy responsible for Power Rangers.
>>
>>283137942
Was he the one who turned the Scouts in Saban Moon all the colors of the DEI rainbow?
>>
>>283139885
Tried to. I remember in the promo trailer for the US version there were like 3 girls in wheel chairs? Saban really has a thing for wheel chair girls.

Him or someone that worked for him.
I'll never forgive him for deciding deciding who to raceswap, and decided to make the Lightning powered girl Black when he could have made Rei into a Latina Catholic Schoolgirl.
IT WAS RIGHT THERE YOU FUCKING KIKE HOW COULD YOU FUCK IT UP
>>
>>283136878
And the actual incest. And the horse cock. And the other incest. Not that the show doesn't scrub a lot of the gore and drama from the manga, too.
>>
>>283140788
I like how the first two are the same character.
What's the other incest though? Shingo's admiration for Sailor Moon?
>>
>>283137307
How did that work, did the show just end before?
