Does symbolism matter?
>>283133096Do characters matter? Does pacing matter? Does art style matter? What kind of question is that?
Let's talk about Flip Flapper symbolism. I hated it because I hate psychoanalysis. Substantially lowered my rating of an otherwise near perfect show
Telling the viewer the symbolism is symbolism is important because otherwise it goes over their heads, resulting in them believing they watched something without symbolism.
>>283133493>when making it clear: the author is so pretentious>when left ambiguous: it's not that deep, the author just used it because it looked cool
>>283133523Meanwhile in reality>when making it clear: HOLY FUCK THIS IS SO DEEP>when left ambiguous: wtf why is random shit happening
>>283133493>>283133523And here, ladies and gentlemen, you have the reason why talking about art with anyone on /a/ is a waste of your time. Because that's how the avg person (read 99% of people who feel themselves spart enough to critique (spoiler: they aren't)) act.It becomes particularly funny when they try to dunk on something for having a simple plot while simultaneously being too midwitted to autonomously pick up on symbolism. In a sense they are speed watching without subs.
symbolism is for retardoh i have to know about Christianity blah blahand when you know all about symbolism then you realize why bother with jap fiction shits at all
>>283133690When left ambiguous they go>That's not there you're making they up where was this startedWhen it's clear in something they like >KINOWhen it's clear in something they dislike >So unsubtle yawn Foolproof
>>283133096Yes, but understanding it perfectly shouldn't integral to enjoying the show.
>>283133721It's okay to just say you don't get it
