Were people in the 80s just immune to seizures?
>>
>>283151814
No. They only found out later.
>>
No, they just didn't give a fuck about the 2% of people with photosensitive epilepsy
>>
>>283151814
The weak were culled without ceremony.
>>
>>283151814
Epilepsy isn't that common, and photosensitive epilepsy even less so. Besides that people didn't understand the connection until much later, in the late 90s when there were a large number of people watching the same shows that caused issues at the same time.
>>283151876
>2%
1 in 4,000.
>>
Like <1% of people have epilepsy and for most TV shows getting above 5% of the population to watch it was considered really high ratings.
So before Pokemon flashbanged every child in Japan it was just really unlikely to fuck anyone up that badly

How did they actually manage to get effects that bright when it was done traditionally?

I don't get why this scene caused such problems. It doesn't look nearly as bad as >>283151814.

Excuse the shitty quality video, but it was a full flashing screen before zooming out
>>
poketards ruining everything since the 90s
>>
>>283152824
The larger area and the clearer the flashing the worse it is. In the op it isn't nearly as bad because it's just part of the screen where most of the flashing is obscured, by actually having other things happen. Also pokemon had a lot more people watching it at the same time suffering the same effects, so it was easy to identify as the cause.

Sudden transition, rapidly flashing contrasting colors, kids sitting too close to the TV in tiny japanese apartments, etc
When like 500+ kids end up in the hospital at once it raises a lot more alarms than just one family finding their son twitching on the floor

Kind of looks like Transformer Armada in a way. I actually like the look. I think I will watch this next.

More like its hard to trigger seizures even with strong flashing lights and most seizures warnings are gay and retarded because the flashing lights are hardly that strong that I doubt it would trigger a seizure even in someone with epliepsy.

I mean, even your webm seems like it was toned down. I've seen way more hardcore strobe effects from anime during the 90s.

Pic related, a truly seizure inducing scene that aired on Japanese televison.

Yea, I just don't have it. I guess seizures aren't my thing.
>>
>>283151814
Easier, simply no one gave a fuck if a couple if kids had seizures.
>>
>>283151814

Yes, literally every cartoon in the 80s that wasnt anthromorfic probably had flashing lights in it somewhere. It would be sweet if someone put the time in to catalog them and make a montage of them to rattle the whimps.
Its those whimpy 90s kids that need glasses and ritalin that cant handle a little flashing lights.

hey kid if you feel bad after watching the flashy thing yesterday you might should stay home today...
so do you feel bad?
>yes
ok then stay home today
>>
>>283151814
Small CRT screens made it a lot easier to watch flashing.

They watched those anime on their black-and-white televisions.

it was the equivalent to arachnophobia filter
>>
>>283152824
Because it was fuckin Pokemon. So damn many kids were watching it that inevitably a few very young kids, too young to have encountered an epilepsy trigger before, would happened to be watching the show. Something like 6 super photosensitive kids had their first seizure to that scene.

The problem happened when the news started running the story an hour or two later. Parents started freaking out and going "oh no, you watched that show! Are you okay?? You're tired?? We need to get you to the hospital!" which is what accounted for the other 700 hospitalizations.

Really, it probably would have been a complete nothingburger if the news had simply not run the story.

We still are.

Funny thing is as of at least a few years ago you could still stream Gundam Wing and the very first ep has a Porygon-style near-full-screen red/blue flash that's fast as shit, no warnings or slowdown, and nowadays you've probably got like a fucking 75 inch screen
>>
>>283153493
>Kamen Rider Black
And they reused many of those scenes. So kids were exposed to that same flashing over and over.
