Decent enough movie. I was hoping Kyoani was going to put effort into making the combat a spectacle, but it was usually just 5 seconds of fighting and then a scene cut. It felt like the combat scenes in the TV show had more effort put into them. Still, it was nice overall.

Is it me or was the editing pretty rough? The battle scenes with Ilma and Fafnir seemed disjointed in particular, like they just slapped together random 5 second clips in no particular order. Lots of moments throughout didn’t have much time to breathe. Maybe they had to cut a lot for runtime? My favorite moment was right after the movie ended when I saw a super buff gym dude leaving the front row. I wonder who he lifts for.
Kobayashi using a spirit bomb was pretty cool.
it was a pretty fun movie, really good animation sequences as expected of kyoani, and got me emotional towards the end. still, the movie being more plot focused over the lighthearted sol comedy i love from dragon maid in the first place was to be expected, and thats my only criticism. could have also had at least one lucoa and shouta scene. solid 8/10.

I wanted to see Lucoa execute the blonde guy after Tohru walked away. I wanted to see Lucoa do literally anything in this movie. She shot one beam at the ground near big daddy that nobody even acknowledged. That's it.
Frankly Kanna's dad didn't deserve the redemption he got. On one hand I get it, they're playing into the theme of dragons being changed and growing from contact with humans. On the other hand it does feel like it spat in the face of the found family that frankly forms the emotional core of the series.

I enjoyed the film greatly, but I take issue with Kimun Kamui’s dragon form. In the manga, Kimun takes a large, bulky, almost swollen-like appearance that plays into his bear motif. In the film, he’s much more muscular and humanoid, which i didn’t care for. Perhaps he was always envisioned as a humanoid dragon, and the bulky appearance is the result of Coolkyou’s questionable anatomy, but I wasn’t completely satisfied with how the film depicted him. His battle against Tohru was also nicely done, I appreciate how animalistic the latter becomes as she’s thrown around.

Her trying to build a relationship with her dad while he's open to it. Is technically... Better for her in the long run. After Kobayashi and Saikawa dies...
