>>283180457You can translate something like "apple" (if that language knows what an apple is), and abstract stuff that's culturally familiar, but once you start going deeper into cultural words that cannot be translated and instead need to be defined in the new language. It's worse when the meaning is close enough that you can force it into a single word. Because I have experience and knowledge, I can guess at what the original line was even in a bad translations, but that means the translator is relying on me to fill in the gaps, lots of TLs assume, especially with anime, that either you don't understans anything from the source language and culture, so it should be localized or that you understand it anyway when they half translate it. Both are wrong, translators notes used to be a thing for a good reason, it is the standard in the entire rest of the industry.
