The book makes him out to be more believable imo.The anime/manga have their own benefits, but tend to lean more into more wacky hijinks and plot points whereas the book is a tad bit more subdued and depressing.Misaki feels a bit more fleshed out too like when they investigate the church to see her do a speech and she's absurdly nervous and alone, it gives more weight to her character feeling like a burden to others and her opinions on God.
