Why didn't people in medieval do this and gain advantage from the air?
?
>>283186692Why didn't medieval people just invent planes? Were they stupid?
>>283186692First manned hot air balloon was created in the 1700s. I'm also dubious of their military value if the knowledge of their creation and use were dropped in the medieval period.Doubt they could be effectively used for dropping troops, might be able to get some value with bombs. Probably would mostly be used for scouting, getting an overhead view of a battlefield, might be useful for quick construction of pontoon bridges where getting ropes across wouldn't otherwise be viable.
>>283186692Those things didn't exist back then. Also it would've been kind of chaotic, so maybe it wouldn't be as effective against a well organized army, and it could've been too expensive for a regular war. Imagine how many people with heavy armor can a balloon move and how many you would need to mobilize tens or hundreds of soldiers. .

>>283186692They were used a few times in the 19th century to drop bombs, but were considered impractical because unpredictable winds could blow them off the target or even back at the ones who sent them off.

Pseud shit. Not only ballons are easy to shot down, they are hard to control and inefficient. Not to mention they are not suited for bombing in the first place since they are sensitive to ballast changes.
