He was made as an user of illegal arts to contrast Fox, and as a down-to-earth fighting type that doesn't care about form or beauty in fighting to contrast with SPK>It's difficult to write significant development for characters that only care about fighting, so the likes of Mantis and SPK end up as casualties for the plot>Although that's a good problem to have, they ended up making the Mantis doll way too well for the role he was supposed to perform. The face was especially well-made, as they made his eyes in an unique sanpaku style that hadn't been used for anyone else. But in a way the design mismatch also helped the script because it's kind of ironic and it makes the twist less obvious.>Though he might have died unceremoniously, Mantis did manage to get hold of the index, even if very briefly, so in a way he wasn't a total failure>Part 2 of this interview is to be released in the future
