Pacing wise is just crazy. Animation / music / lore is good.

The novel has like 100 secret orgs and societies, a football team of gods, 9 levels of superpowers for 22 pathways, sealed artifacts, charms, other magic items with pros and cons.

It is just crazy that they attempted to fit the 1st volume into 13 episodes.
>>
>>283231377
Rather than soulless, you might need high IQ to actually understand it, otherwise it's good to watch
At least the first half is much better than TBHX

>It is just crazy that they attempted to fit the 1st volume into 13 episodes.
Did they cut a lot/rush the pacing? Is it better to just read the source novel then?

Read the novel.
>>
>>283231648
Not necessarily. Personally I was filtered hard by the writing style, despite reading several danmei before. Hated it, but I found the show fun and engaging.
Honestly the anime is an illustrative, animated companion of the novel more than an adaptation. Zero care was put into synthetizing plot points or easing secondaries into the dense ass story, and especially not secondaries who have never engaged with chinese media and its tropes before.
You can still enjoy it if you don't mind not understanding everything you see though. Just enjoy the vibes, understanding will come after a while. Or not, of so just ask around after you're done watching.
>>
>>283231648

They didn't cut much because the 1st volume is the weakest. The novel takes a lot of time to explain everything and this cannot be done inside 30' of animation.

The novel is very good if you like fantasy.

Just because there's a lot of them doesn't mean that they're any good or add anything to the story.
If anything it feels like it's a copout where every new adversary is part of some new secret society. Like sure thing bud, knock yourself out.
>>
>>283231377
Good animation and music, the plot is kinda good too but everything happens incredibly fast.
Heard that the novel is much slower with more emphasis on the mysteries than fighting, at least in the 1st season and the coming 2nd one.
Would love some more explanation on the powers tho's, the extra mini-episodes were kinda shit with how it infodumped you so much in like 3 minutes.

I thought the animation was good enough,
but as a novelfag I was disappointed at the reveal at the end, I thought they botched it.
That said they did a good enough job hitting the other story moments and the things they chinged were fine.
On the whole it was a good animation and a good adaptation.
Maybe a it's too much at once for people who haven't read the books, but I can't judge.
>>
>>283235191
Why not? Anyone can do it and there are some stories that get fewer than 50 chapters written that get picked up for adaptation.

Do people even read webnovels originally written in english?
>>
>>283237216
I'm not sure if Shadow Slave is in English initially or Russian, but I read that.
>>
>>283236955
Also a novelfag, I actually think they did the reveal at the end quite well assuming you're talking about Ince
Really yeah, the pacing is breakneck and it IS good, it's just too much crammed into 13 episodes, which is why they caved and let season 2 have 30 episodes, though frankly I'm not entirely sold on that being a good idea either. Season 1 really needed 25ish episodes.
>>
>>283237285
It puzzles me why Tencent can greenlight 5 seasons at one go but not 25 episodes for one season to adapt it properly
>>
>>283237318
I think it's because there's a difference between promising 5 seasons and actually paying upfront for 24 episodes.
One you can easily flake on if interest dies out...
>>
>>283237285
I'm glad they're giving S2 more space.
Yea, I meant Ince, to me that sequence is all about the back and forth of telling the story and then crossing out the text and having to change it because Klein fucked it up.
I though that it did a fine job of presenting the hidden current, but not of that plan-redaction dynamic which left a strong impression on me in the book.

It could be an issue of me not understanding chinese and not being able to pick up the intonation and dramatic representation.
I tried to look for an english version of the sequence, but my cursory search came up with nothing.
>>
>>283237379
>spoiler
fair critique, I feel the anime reveal itself introduced a different element that was well implemented in Klein's genuine surprise and bewilderment at Ince showing up and killing him. The look of pure shock on his face when he drops dead was really good, which felt like what a lot of anons who had trouble following would have felt at that point as well. The lead up was also pretty good.
I do for the most part agree with your critique though, I just found something anime-original to be impressed by, i suppose.

I enjoyed the animation.
The music was cool, a bit over the top sometimes, sometimes it seemed straight out ripped from skyrim or bloodborne lol.
Story is hard to grapple I believe, you can't watch it like a brainless zombie and then get annoyed that you didn't understand it. If understanding is even possible at this point.
The "magic system" is cool and dare I say creative. But they got a few fine details wrong I think, like the fool card being numba 1. It's 0.
Anyway, I had more motivation to watch this than isekai slop #112123213213213

The fool card is 0. It's just that in Loenese numerals 0 looks like our 1. Or rather it's the numeral for 10 with nothing in the tens place.

Arc 1 in the novel was good, but they sloppified season 1 so you won't get anything unless you read the story.
>Is it just more soulless chink slop
Turns into that after the first arc. The author seems to just gave up and go through the chink cultivation progression and all the tropes that comes along with under the Victorian coat of paint. Good guys inexplicably wins because a Deus ex machina descends down to wipe his ass whenever he soils himself
Meanwhile the story progression becomes
>Klein runs into plot
>Because I'm so smart, I can predict he will betray me/I will be ambushed/attacked/need persuading so I better be ready!
>Because he is so smart and had anticipated the betrayal/attack/right words, Klein survives while every else fails or dies
>And when they don't, the author uses it as an opportunity to aurafarm Klein with how awesome he is through the point of view of side characters.
>Also he gets to see where the fool tarot card is right after bypassing a deathtrap despite being half a dozen sequence below the ones who's casting it and clearly knows he's there because as this point who gives a shit anymore, might as well squeeze it in

I get that you need to align certain plot elements and jumble them together to get the ball rolling, but the author does this so egregiously it feels like post arc1 Klein is going through a themepark where he's the protagonist who stumbles into Intel and shit he needs whenever he needs them. The writer must've felt this too since he had to try and handwaved it with a big twist of Klein being groomed to be a god therefore all the plot contrivances are totally ok please don't look into it.

>The novel has like 100 secret orgs and societies, a football team of gods, 9 levels of superpowers for 22 pathways, sealed artifacts, charms, other magic items with pros and cons.
This would be interesting if it weren't for the fact that only one matters. Evernight Goddess is such a fucking invincible unbeatable Mary Sue that the rest might as well not exist. Obviously the weird AGP author's personal waifu, he just can't help himself.
>>
>>283243942
>a fucking invincible unbeatable Mary Sue

>>
>>283243707
>so you won't get anything
That's complete horseshit. It's not about whether it's comprehensible & digestible or not, because it totally is where it matters (so you retards look retarded bringing it up as a critique), it's that the story telling is dogshit & it's DOGSHIT by not building up a single fucking thing. At no point did it lingers on something or lets it simmer. X happens and then Y happens and then Z happens.
Also fuck the lore breaking fights.
Haven't hated anything as much in recent time as I do this LoTM adaptation. It fucking sucks.
>>
>>283231788
It was important I think, it tried to keep down to earth the initial powers that they got, a nice contrast when they encountered the horrors and powers beyond their levels, anime made it a bit too fast and exagerated which removed the suspense with the shiny super powers.

>The novel has like 100 secret orgs and societies, a football team of gods, 9 levels of superpowers for 22 pathways, sealed artifacts, charms, other magic items with pros and cons.
Why does Chinese stuff always take the fantastical and mysterious and turn it into hundreds of pages of Excel spreadsheets? It's like the story is its own wiki. It's more like doing homework than a story. It makes isekai look tame.
>>
>>283244512
What kind of person writes something like this?

>>
>>283244701
Imagine being so autistic you have to categorize the supernatural into "9 levels for 22 pathways" like a fucking business report. You'd start screeching watching Lord of the Rings because you don't know whether Gandalf is a 6th level theomancer on the Night Raven path while Saruman is a 9th level sonicrafter on the Shrieking Squirrel path.
>>
>>283244927
All you need to know is the author simultaneously wishes he could fuck the Evernight Goddess and BE the Evernight Goddess so she will always win. In the end, everything leads to author appeal.

I wish sequel never happened. Was totally fine with the ending of the first book:
>shit is grim and will get worse, but MC did wrestle for the seat of a big dick player and won, so his muppet club has the best in-universe backing & thus a chance to make something from it
I mean, Klein didn't really have a goal after discovering that he didn't transmigrate, so by sacrificing himself he gave hope to others. The hope he himself got denied. Or something, idk.

Lord of the Mysteries has smart characters written stupidly.

Ciel Dubois from Circle of Inevitability is a smartly written smart character. When Ciel kills a hotel room full of three people he books the room next door so he can examine it, finding which walls he can stab and shoot through, what flammable materials there are, whether there is enough space to break-dance, etc. This is a smart thing to do because Ciel is a smart person who is written by another smart person who understands how smart people think.

If Detective Sherlock Moriarty from Lord of the Mysteries were to kill a hotel room full of three people. He'd enter using a secret door in the hotel he found via divination. He'd throw a mystic item infected by True Creator ravings near one guy causing him to lose control. The second person would then immediately die, as planned, as it's a "reasonable development" for the woman to be torn to shreds by the first guy who turned into a mad monster. As for the third man, why Sherlock doesn't kill him at all. It's a reAson.b!e devel0pmenT fOr tHe 3rD mAn to di3 fRom A heArt aTta--- After turning around counter-clockwise, the third man removes his disguise to reveal he actually WAS Sherlock the entire time. But Sherlock just entered through the secret door and killed two people, how can there be two of him? The first Sherlock removes his disguise to reveal that he is actually Lanevus attempting to frame the detective. Sherlock however anticipated this, the two dead people stand up, they're Sherlock's friends, Maric and Sharron, their deaths were just an act. "But Sherlock!" Lanevus cries, "The two of them looked like they clearly lost control or died, the woman even lost her head, how do you explain that?" Because I am better at using the thing behind my glabella, Sherlock inwardly Lampoons, the end.

This is retarded because Sherlock is a smart person written by a stupid person to whom smart people are indistinguishable from wizards.
